This study presents a novel rapid analytical method for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from blueberry leaves using the Tenax adsorbent followed by separation using a multicapillary column (MCC) and Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) detection. The emitted VOCs including caryophyllene, benzene acetonitrile, linalool, ocimene, and methyl salicylate initiated by different stress factors including mechanical damage (punching), herbivore attack (aphids) and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) spraying were detected and quantified. Limits of Detection (LODs) for the VOCs were determined in the range of 8 to 33 ng.

Background: Ashbya gossypii is a filamentous fungus widely utilized for industrial riboflavin production and has a great potential as a microbial chassis for synthesizing other valuable metabolites such as folates, biolipids, and limonene. Engineered strains of A. gossypii can effectively use various waste streams, including xylose-rich feedstocks.

Anxiety disorder is one of the most common neuropsychiatric disorders, and affects many people's daily activities. Although the pathogenesis and treatments of anxiety disorder have been studied for several decades, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we provide evidence that olfactory stimuli with inhaled linalool or 2-phenylethanol decreased mouse anxiety-like behaviors and increased the activities of hippocampal dentate granule cells (DGCs).
