Stressed hepatocytes promote liver fibrosis through communications with hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) during chronic liver injury. However, intra-hepatocyte players that facilitate such cell-to-cell communications are largely undefined. It is previously reported that hepatocyte E4BP4 is potently induced by ER stress and hepatocyte deletion of E4bp4 protects mice from high-fat diet-induced liver steatosis.

Inoculating sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) habitats offers an eco-friendly method for treating sulfate-metal laden wastewater, characterized by high sulfate levels, low pH, and elevated heavy metals. This study optimizes source habitat selection of SRB by evaluating groundwater, sewage sludge, and lake sediment, focusing on their suitability and adaptability to aerobic-anaerobic transitions in industrial settings. Sewage sludge, with its slightly acidic pH, reducing environment, and high nutrient levels (Total organic carbon: 207.

As the role of RNA modification in gene expression regulation and human diseases, the "epitranscriptome" has been shown to be an important player in regulating many physiological and pathological processes. Meanwhile, the phenomenon of cancer drug resistance is becoming more and more frequent, especially in the case of cancer chemotherapy resistance. In recent years, research on relationship between post-transcriptional modification and cancer including drug resistance has become a hot topic, especially the methylation of the sixth nitrogen site of RNA adenosine-mA (N6-methyladenosine).

As a biological variable, sex influences the metabolism of and/or response to certain drugs. Vicagrel is being developed as an investigational new drug in China; however, it is unknown whether sex could affect its metabolic activation and platelet responsiveness. This study aimed to determine whether such differences could exist, and to elucidate the mechanisms involved.

The longhorned beetles are key players for the maintenance of biodiversity in the terrestrial ecosystem. As xylophagous cerambycid insects in Coleoptera, the beetles have evolved specialized olfactory and gustatory systems to recognize chemical cues in the surrounding habitats. Despite over 36,000 described species in the Cerambycidae family including a wood-boring pest Pharsalia antennata, only a limited number of them (<1 %) have been characterized regarding their chemical ecology at the molecular level.
