We present a theoretical model for describing light scattering from randomly distributed Au nanoparticles on a substrate, including the clustering effect. By using the finite-element Green's function method and spherical harmonic basis functions, we are able to calculate the polarization-dependent reflectivity spectra of the system (modeled by randomly distributed nanoparticles coupled with clusters) efficiently and accurately. The calculated ellipsometric spectra of the system with clusters can adequately describe the experimental data for the whole frequency range. We find that the clustering effect leads to some prominent features in the low frequency range of the ellipsometric spectra, which are attributed to plasmonic resonances associated with the coupling of Au nanoparticles and clusters.

Unraveling the knowledge of the complex refractive index and photophysical properties of the perovskite layer is paramount to uncovering the physical process that occurs in a perovskite solar cell under illumination. Herein, we probed the optical and photophysical properties of FAPbI (FAPI) and CsFAPbI (CsFAPI) thin films deposited from pre-synthesized powder, by the spectroscopic ellipsometer and time-resolved fluorescence spectra. We determined the complex refractive index of perovskite films by fitting the measured spectroscopic ellipsometer data with the three-oscillator Tauc-Lorentz (T-L) model.

Regular wave patterns were created by a 2 kV gallium ion on Si(111) monocrystals at incidence angles between 60° and 80° with respect to the surface normal. The characteristic wavelength and surface roughness of the structured surfaces were determined to be between 35-75 nm and 0.5-2.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films are the subject of intensive research because of great interest in using them in applications, especially in medicine. From an optical point of view, PET films with a low degree of stretching can be considered uniaxial materials, for which the determination of the linear birefringence and its dispersion is very important. Two methods were applied here for the estimation of these parameters: the ellipsometric method and the channeled spectra method.

In this research, the optical properties of the PVP: ZnTiO nanocomposite are studied using the spectroscopic ellipsometry technique. The preparation procedure of the ZnTiO nanocomposite is explained in detail. The absorbance/transmittance, surface morphology, structural information, chemical identification, and surface topography of the ZnTiO nanocomposite is studied using UV-Vis spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infra-red, and atomic force microscopy, respectively.

This study reports the first attempt to characterize the quality, defects, and strain of as-grown monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC)-based 2D materials through exciton anisotropy. A standard ellipsometric parameter (Ψ) to observe anisotropic exciton behavior in monolayer 2D materials is used. According to the strong exciton effect from phonon-electron coupling processes, the change in the exciton in the Van Hove singularity is sensitive to lattice distortions such as defects and strain.
