Co-translational protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), represents an evolutionary-conserved mechanism to target proteins into the secretory pathway. In this targeting pathway proteins possessing signal sequences are recognised at the ribosome by the signal recognition particle while they are still undergoing synthesis. This triggers their delivery to the ER protein translocation channel, where they are directly translocated into the ER. Here we review the current understanding of this translocation pathway and how molecular details obtained in the related bacterial system have provided insight into the mechanism of targeting and translocation. This article is part of a Special Issue entitled: Functional and structural diversity of endoplasmic reticulum.

The 40S ribosomal subunit recycling pathway is an integral link in the cellular quality control network, occurring after translational errors have been corrected by the ribosome-associated quality control (RQC) machinery. Despite our understanding of its role, the impact of translation quality control on cellular metabolism remains poorly understood. Here, we reveal a conserved role of the 40S ribosomal subunit recycling (USP10-G3BP1) complex in regulating mitochondrial dynamics and function.

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are a group of disorders characterized by the progressive loss of neuronal structure and function. The pathogenesis is intricate and involves a network of interactions among multiple causes and systems. Mitochondria and Ca signaling have long been considered to play important roles in the development of various NDs.

Objective: The aim of this work is to identify putative hub genes for the advancement of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and determine the fundamental mechanisms.
Methods: We employed multiple bioinformatics techniques to screen hub genes. Key hub gene expression levels in ccRCC were assessed.
