The title compound, [Cu(SO4)(C12H8N2)2]·C4H10O2, is comprised of neutral monomeric complex and butane-2,3-diol solvent mol-ecules. In the complex, the Cu(II) ion is in a distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment defined by four N atoms from two chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and one O atom from a monodentate sulfate anion; the O atom is at the apex. The two chelating N2C2 groups subtend a dihedral angle of 85.8 (4)°. In the crystal, the neutral monomeric complex and butane-2,3-diol solvent mol-ecules are held together by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, which leads to additional stabilization of the structure. The presence of pseudosymmetry in the structure suggests the higher symmetry space group C2/c, but attempts to refine the structure in this space group resulted in an unsatisfactory model and high R and wR values. The sulfate anion is disordered over two sets of sites with occupancies of 0.55 (1) and 0.45 (1).

Thermal aggregation of immunoglobulin G depending on the charge state of protein-polyelectrolyte complexes.

Protein-polyelectrolyte complexes (PPCs) exhibit opposite effects, both suppressing and promoting protein aggregation, depending on the type of components. For the application of PPCs as protein stabilization technology, these opposite effects must be controlled. In this study, we investigated the thermal aggregation of immunoglobulin G (IgG)-polyamino acid complexes to elucidate the relationship between the charge state of PPCs, evaluated by the zeta potential, and their opposite effects on the aggregation process, which were measured using a spectrophotometer.

Neprilysin (NEP) is a neutral endopeptidase, important for the degradation of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides and other neuropeptides, including enkephalins, substance P, and bradykinin, in the brain, that influences various physiological processes such as blood pressure homeostasis, pain perception, and neuroinflammation. NEP breaks down Aβ peptides into smaller fragments, preventing the development of detrimental aggregates such as Aβ plaques. NEP clears Aβ plaques predominantly by enzymatic breakdown in the extracellular space.

Flavan-3-ol oligomers (FLOs), including proanthocyanidins (PAs) and theasinensins (TSs), contribute greatly to the flavor and bioactivity of the tea beverage. Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry has been widely used in profiling a wide range of compounds in tea. However, the detection and identification of FLOs with low concentration and high structural diversity remain meaningful yet challenging work.

A Self-Consistent Molecular Mechanism of β-Microglobulin Aggregation.

Despite the consensus on the origin of dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) being β-microglobulin (βm) aggregation, the debate on the underlying mechanism persists because of the continuous emergence of βm variant- and pH-dependent contradictory results. By characterizing the native monomeric (initiation) and aggregated fibrillar (termination) states of βm via a combination of two enhanced sampling approaches, we here propose a mechanism that explains the heterogeneous behavior of wild-type (WT) and pathogenic (V27M and D76N) βm variants in physiological and disease-pertinent acidic pH environments. It appears that the higher retainment of monomeric native folds at neutral pH (native-like) distinguishes pathogenic βm mutants from the WT (moderate loss).
