The effects of micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs) on human health are of global concern because MNPs are ubiquitous, persistent, and potentially toxic, particularly when bound to atmospheric fine particles (PM). Traditional quantitative analysis of MNPs by pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) is often inaccurate because of false positive signals caused by similar polymers and organic compounds. In this study, a reliable analytical strategy combining HNO digestion and chromatographic peak reconstruction was developed to improve the precision of pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of multiple MNPs bound to PM.

With hydrogen being a promising candidate for many future and current energy applications, there is a need for material-testing solutions, which can represent hydrogen charging under superimposed mechanical loading. Usage of high purity gaseous hydrogen under high pressure in commercial solutions entails huge costs and also potential safety concerns. Therefore, a setup was developed utilizing a customized electrochemical charging cell built into a dynamic testing system.

The present study aim to investigate the effects of three drying processes on the flavor-related compounds and sensory quality of summer black tea. A total of 234 flavonoids and 1200 volatile compounds were identified in tea samples by using UPLC-MS/MS and HS-SPME-GC-MS, respectively. It was found that the combining hot-air and roasting drying process increased the level of epigallocatechin, epicatechin, gallic acid, theaflavins, and umami and sweet amino acids in tea samples.

The study evaluated the application of a novel high-pressure microbial inactivation method combining dense carbon dioxide with modified atmosphere packaging on organic fresh-cut squash (Cucurbita moschata). Approximately 4 g or 32 g of squash was packed in plastic pouches filled with CO to test two different gas-to-product ratios and treated with the high-pressure method at previously optimized process conditions (45 °C, 6.0 MPa and 40 min).

The inhibition of methane-air explosions by air jet-driven NaHCO powders and porous barriers was investigated in this study. Flame images and overpressure data were recorded using high-speed cameras and pressure sensors. The inhibition mechanism of NaHCO powder was further investigated using the reaction mechanism of sodium-containing substances and methane combustion.
