Pemetrexed is a chemotherapeutic, antimetabolite agent that has been used in oncology to treat diseases such as metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and unresectable malignant pleural mesothelioma. Pemetrexed use may result in pseudocellulitis, which presents as poorly demarcated patches or plaques with erythema, edema, warmth, and tenderness. These lesions can present unilaterally or bilaterally on the lower extremities.

Envenomations caused by viperid and some elapid snakebites are typically accompanied by local swelling and signs of inflammation that appear within a few hours of bite and spread centripetally for a few days. Often these changes are mistaken for signs of infection and are misdiagnosed as 'cellulitis'. This potentially results in unwarranted use of antibiotics.

Background: Cellulitis is an acute bacterial infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The characteristic symptoms of the disease are an area of skin that is swollen, warmth, redness, pain, unknown borderline, tends to expand, and can lead to tissue necrosis. Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) is a non-drug treatment, which has the effect of relieving pain, reducing edema, and accelerating the wound healing process for patients with cellulitis.
