A high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/ MS) analytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of ten aminoglycoside residues (streptomycin, dihydrostrepmycin, neomycin, kanamycin, tobramycin, gentamycin, apramycin, hygromycin B, paromomycin, and amkacin) in milk and dairy products. The sample was extracted with 5% trichloroacetic acid aqueous solution, then the extract was purified by a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) cartridge. The ten aminoglycoside residues were separated by ion-pair reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography. Heptafluorobutyric acid was used as ion pair agent due to its volatility. Then the analytes were detected by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. The pretreatment condition of the sample, the HPLC condition and the MS operation parameters were optimized. The results showed that the linearities of the ten aminoglycoside residues in 20-1000 microg/L had the correlation coefficient between 0.9946-0.9997. The recoveries ranged from 71.2% and 101.7% with the relative standard deviations of 3.4%-13.8%. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of the mass concentrations of the analytes in related samples, which provides a simple, and convenient method for the quality control of milk and dairy products. Furthermore, this method is effective for the safety monitoring of aminoglycoside residues in milk and dairy products.

The present study aims to create spiro-N-(4-sulfamoyl-phenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-carboxamide derivatives with anticancer activities. The in vitro anticancer evaluation showed that only the novel spiro-acenaphthylene tethered-[1,3,4]-thiadiazole (compound ) exhibited significant anticancer efficacy as a selective inhibitor of tumor-associated isoforms of carbonic anhydrase. Compound demonstrated considerable efficacy against the renal RXF393, colon HT29, and melanoma LOX IMVI cancer cell lines, with IC values of 7.

This review investigates the levels of antibiotic residues in animal products, types of antibiotics, and their possible impact on human health in Africa. The literature search involved the use of a systematic survey using data that were published from Africa from 2015 to 2024. The search terms used the Boolean operators with keywords such as antibiotics, antibiotic residues, antibiotics in animal products in Africa, and impact on human health.

A highly sensitive and selective electrochemical biosensor was developed for the detection of kanamycin using a core-hollow-shell structured peroxidase-mimic nanozyme, CHS-Fe₃O₄@@ZIF-8. The synthesized CHS-FeO@@ZIF-8 was characterized with scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the CHS-FeO@@ZIF-8 exhibits excellent peroxidase-like activity due to its ultra-thin hollow layer.

Aminoglycosides are one of the first classes of natural antibiotics which have not lost relevance due to their broad spectrum of action against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and mycobacteria. The high growth rate of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) together with the severe side effects of aminoglycosides increase the importance of developing improved semisynthetic derivatives. In this work, we proposed a synthetic route to new tobramycin derivatives modified at the 6″-position with aminoalkylamine or guanidinoalkylamine residues.

Magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) has been widely employed in the isolation and enrichment of antibiotics in complex matrices because it presents various unique advantages over traditional SPE including simple operation, fast extraction procedure, low cost and eco-friendliness. In recently years, magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles (MMINs) containing highly specific recognition performance have been widely used to specific extraction of antibiotics under the format of MSPE. In this connection, recent advances of MMINs in the analysis of antibiotic residues are reviewed.
