Copper-mediated direct and regioselective C3-cyanation of indoles using benzyl cyanide as the cyanide anion source is presented. A wide range of indoles undergo cyanation smoothly by employing a reaction system of copper(I) iodide under open-to-air vessels.

Scintillation-based X-ray detection has been widely used in various fields from medical diagnostics to security. In this study, we report four new CuI-based hybrid materials consisting of anionic inorganic chains coordinated to cationic ligands. Due to their unique bonding nature, these compounds demonstrate high stability, solution processability, and efficient photoluminescence with photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) reaching ∼85%.

Cu-catalyzed enantioconvergent cross-coupling of alkyl halides has emerged as a powerful strategy for synthesizing enantioenriched molecules. However, this approach is intrinsically limited by the weak reducing power of copper(I) species, which restricts the scope of compatible nucleophiles and necessitates extensive ligand optimization or the use of complex chiral scaffolds. To overcome these challenges, we introduce an aryl-radical-enabled strategy that decouples the alkyl halide activation step from the chiral Cu center.

Hybrid copper(I) halide materials are currently attracting significant attention due to their exceptional luminescence properties, offering great potential for the development of multifunctional emissive materials with, in addition, eco-friendly features. A binuclear copper iodide complex, based on the [CuIL] motif with phosphite derivatives as ligands, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. Photophysical investigations indicate that this complex displays luminescence thermochromic properties, which are characterized by a temperature-dependent change in the relative intensity of two emission bands.

The copper-catalyzed Chan-Evans-Lam (CEL) coupling reaction advances carbon-heteroatom cross-coupling and has facilitated the development of radiohalogenation methodologies in radiochemistry. This study investigated the mechanisms and side reactions of CEL iodination under conditions relevant to radiosynthesis and typical organic synthesis, focusing on the effects of sodium iodide. The concentrations of copper and iodide, as well as the copper-to-iodide ratio, were identified as significant factors for successful copper-mediated CEL iodination, influencing the reaction mechanisms and side reactions.
