Post-synthesis modification of DNA is an important way of functionalizing DNA molecules. Herein, we describe a method that first enzymatically incorporates a cyanobenzothiazole (CBT)-modified thymidine. The side-chain handle CBT can undergo a rapid and site-specific cyclization reaction with 1,2-aminothiols to afford DNA functionalization in aqueous solution. Another key advantage of this method is the formation of a single stereo/regioisomer in the process, which allows for precise control of DNA modification to yield a single component for aptamer selection work and other applications.

Post-synthesis surface modification of Cu/Zr metal azolate framework: A pathway to highly sensitive electrochemical biosensors for atrazine detection.

Anal Chim Acta

Dept. of Electronic Materials Engineering, Kwangwoon University, Seoul, 01897, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: Atrazine (ATZ), a pesticide that poses serious health problems, is observed in the environment, thereby prompting its periodic monitoring and control using functional biosensors. However, established methods for ATZ detection have limited applicability. Two-dimensional (2D) metal azolate frameworks (MAF) have a higher surface area per unit volume and provide easier access to active sites.

This study explored the preparation of pure silica KIT-6, as well as KIT-6 materials with an enhanced concentration of surface OH groups through aluminum incorporation or NHF treatment. These materials with various contents of surface OH groups were subsequently modified via the post-synthesis grafting of sulfonic groups using 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane as a precursor, followed by oxidation to introduce acidic sites. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized using XRD, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, SEM-EDS, TEM, and FT-IR techniques to confirm their structural and chemical properties.

Glutathione-functionalized covalent organic frameworks@silica as a hydrophilic-hydrophobic balanced mixed-mode stationary phase for highly efficient separation of compounds with a wide range of polarity.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou, 450001, PR China; Key Laboratory of Accurate Separation and Analysis for Complex Matrix of Zhengzhou City, Zhengzhou, 450001, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a highly promising stationary phase for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), but the separation of polar compounds is limited by their low hydrophilicity. Therefore, it is crucial to develop novel COFs-based stationary phases with balanced hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity for the efficient separation of different polar compounds.

Results: In this paper, glutathione (GSH)-functionalized COFs@silica microspheres (GSH-COFs@SiO) were synthesized via a two-step, post-synthesis modification strategy.

TiO2 nanoparticles have numerous applications, prompting extensive efforts to optimize their synthesis for various technologies. This study synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles via the solvothermal method, using a chemometric approach to vary time, temperature, and concentrations of both the precursor and crystallization agent, aiming to understand these variables' effects on crystallite size. Post-synthesis, a sample underwent treatment for sulfate adsorption to alter surface properties from hydrophobic to hydrophilic.

Chirality generation on carbon nanosheets by chemical modification.

Chirality is an intriguing property of molecules, and an exciting area of study involves the generation of chirality in nanographenes (NGs), also known as graphene quantum dots. Unlike those synthesized through stepwise carbon-carbon bond formation by organic reactions (bottom-up method), NGs obtained by cutting parent carbons (top-down method) pose challenges in precisely regulating their three-dimensional structures by post-synthesis. This includes the incorporation of non-hexagonal rings and helicene-like structures in carbon frameworks.
