This present work describes the application of liquid chromatography-solid phase extraction-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to analyse Alternaria alternata crude extracts. Altenusin (1), alternariol (2), 3'-hydroxyalternariol monomethyl ether (3), and alternariol monomethyl ether (4), were separated and identified. High-resolution mass spectrometry confirmed the proposed structures. The cytotoxic effects of these compounds towards plants were determined using soybean (Glycine max) cell cultures as a model. EC(50) values which range from 0.11 (± 0.02) to 4.69 (± 0.47) μM showed the high cytotoxicity of these compounds.

Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata) is a perennial plant belonging to the Umbelliferae family, and is widely cultivated as a traditional Chinese medicine plant used to treat various diseases in northern China. Aims: This study aimed to assess the mode of action of fusaric and 9,10-dehydrofusaric acids on cell respiration by measuring the hyphal oxygen consumption rate, and the effects on cell membrane integrity by determining the electrical conductivity of the mycelium.
Methods And Results: Bioactivity-directed fractionation of the active culture medium and mycelium organic extracts from the Fusarium lactis strain SME13-2 isolated from Sapium macrocarpum, led to the isolation of two known alkylpicolinic acid derivatives: fusaric acid and 9,10-dehydrofusaric acid, along with the known polyketide bikaverin. Fusaric acid and 9,10-dehydrofusaric acid exhibited antioomycete and antifungal activities, significantly inhibiting the radial growth of Phytophthora capsici, Pythium aphanidermatum, Alternaria alternata and Fusarium oxysporum.

In this study, we carried out large-scale leaf spot symptom observation on vineyards in the Krasnodar Krai of Russia and determined their distribution. The incidence and severity of leaf spot were higher on the Euro-American grapevine hybrids (Bianka, Levokumskij, Avgustin, Moldova, Pervenets Magaracha, Dunavski lazur). A total of 433 isolates that belonged to the genus were isolated from samples with leaf spot.
