The synthesis of crystalline microporous materials containing large pores is in high demand by industry, especially for the use of these materials as catalysts in chemical processes involving bulky molecules. An extra-large-pore silicoaluminophosphate with 16-ring openings, ITQ-51, has been synthesized by the use of bulky aromatic proton sponges as organic structure-directing agents. Proton sponges show exceptional properties for directing extra-large zeolites because of their unusually high basicity combined with their large size and rigidity. This extra-large-pore material is stable after calcination, being one of the very few examples of hydrothermally stable molecular sieves containing extra-large pores. The structure of ITQ-51 was solved from submicrometer-sized crystals using the rotation electron diffraction method. Finally, several hypothetical zeolites related to ITQ-51 have been proposed.

Glioblastoma-associated macrophages & microglia (GAMs) are critical immune cells within the glioblastoma (GBM) microenvironment. Their phagocytosis of GBM cells is crucial for initiating both innate and adaptive immune responses. GBM cells evade this immune attack by upregulating the anti-phagocytic molecule CD47 on their surface.

Hypothesis: The addition of water to a non-ionic N-oxide deep eutectic solvent(DES) composed of phenylacetic acid (PhAA) and N-dodecylmorpholine-N-oxide(MO-12) in a 1:1 M ratio(PhAA/MO-12) will promote interfacial nanostructure formation due to increased proton transfer and solvophobic interactions, leading to reduced friction.

Experiments: The interfacial structure and friction of PhAA/MO-12 with water content up to 41.9 wt% were investigated at mica surfaces.

Aquaporins (AQPs) are natural proteins that can selectively transport water across cell membranes. Heterogeneous H-bonding of water with the inner wall of the pores of AQPs is of maximal importance regarding the optimal stabilization of water clusters within channels, leading to selective pore flow water transport against ions. To gain deeper insight into the water permeation mechanisms, simpler artificial water channels (AWCs) have been developed.

A new miniaturized framework for graphitic material featuring three neighboring pyridinic nitrogen atoms is disclosed. The quinoline/quinazoline hybridized pseudo trimeric macrocycle, DiQuinoline(Q)-MonoQuinazolines(Qz), Q2Qz1, was readily synthesized from the key macrocyclic amide precursor in a modular fashion. Its central cavity strongly captures a proton, and the thus-formed positively charged, highly planar architecture exhibits supramolecular complexation through 𝜋-interactions.

Macrocycles are unique as they encapsulate and transfer guest molecules or ions and facilitate catalytic processes. Although metalated macrocycles are pivotal in electrocatalytic processes, using metal-free analogs has been rare. Following the strategy of Kanbara et al.
