Background: Gigantomastia is the overdevelopment of the female mammary gland, and it causes great physiological and psychological burdens to patients. A better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in gigantomastia is needed to develop less invasive and more effective medical treatments. MicroRNA (miRNA) is a class of small noncoding RNAs that play an important regulatory role at the post-transcriptional level. These miRNAs are known to be involved in many diseases, including breast cancer; however, the relationship between miRNA and gigantomastia is largely unknown.

Methods: Whole genome-wide expression of miRNA and mRNA in gigantomastia was detected using microarray and functional annotation was performed based on the altered expression of miRNAs and mRNAs.

Results: We found many miRNAs and mRNAs to be significantly differentially expressed in gigantomastia compared with normal breast tissues. Functional annotation analysis indicated that APK, Wnt, and Neurotrophin signaling pathways may participate in gigantomastia.

Conclusion: This study addresses the need for better diagnosis and treatment of gigantomastia by providing new insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying this disease.

Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is an important disease causing death and disability worldwide, and further investigation of IS-related genes through genome-wide association study (GWAS) data is valuable.

Methods: The study included GWAS data from 62,100 IS patients of European origin and 1,234,808 controls in a cross-tissue transcriptome association study (TWAS). A joint analysis was first performed by the Unified Test for Molecular Markers (UTMOST) and FUSION methods.

Circular RNAs as Key Regulators in Cancer Hallmarks: New Progress and Therapeutic Opportunities.

Institute of Human Genetics, Jena University Hospital, Jena, Germany; Urology and Nephrology Research Center, Research Institute for Urology and Nephrology, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as critical regulators in cancer biology, contributing to various cancer hallmarks, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, and drug resistance. Defined by their covalently closed loop structure, circRNAs possess unique characteristics like high stability, abundance, and tissue-specific expression. These non-coding RNAs function through mechanisms such as miRNA sponging, interactions with RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), and modulating transcription and splicing.

Eukaryotic transcriptomes are remarkably complex, encompassing not only protein-coding RNAs but also an expanding repertoire of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs). In plants, ncRNA-ncRNA interactions (NNIs) have emerged as pivotal regulators of gene expression, orchestrating development and adaptive responses to stress. Despite their critical roles, the functional significance of NNIs remains poorly understood, largely due to a lack of comprehensive resources.

Electronic address:

Central obesity is associated with higher risk of developing a wide range of diseases independent of overall obesity. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified more than 300 susceptibility loci associated with central obesity. However, the functional understanding of these loci is limited by the fact that most loci are in non-coding regions.
