A novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe based on cyanine dyes was designed and synthesized to detect nitroreductase (NTR) activity. Upon reaction with NTR, the nitro-group of p-nitrobenzyl moiety was reduced to amino-group and therefore renews the π-electron conjugation of the dye, resulting in the intense NIR fluorescent emission (708 nm). This redox-induced NIR-fluorescence probe has been successfully applied to the detection of NTR activity under physiological conditions with high selectivity.

Accurately detecting cysteine (Cys) in vivo is crucial for diagnosing Cys-related diseases. A novel ratiometric fluorescent probe featuring dual near-infrared emission is developed in this study for the in vivo ratio imaging of Cys. The probe comprises a hemicyanine organic small-molecule dye (HCy-CYS) with specific Cys recognition capabilities covalently coupled with carbon dots (CDs) synthesized using glutathione (GSH) as the carbon source (GCDs), forming a unique composite nanofluorescent probe (GCDs@CYS).

Despite its importance, the determination of the degree of cure of melamine-based laminates often relies on tests with limited accuracy and validity. Undercured surfaces may suffer insufficient resistance to scratching and heat as well as substandard surface quality. Overcured melamine surfaces tend to crack and entail the inefficient utilization of the press-the panels could have been pressed for a shorter time.

Chronic alcoholism is known to have detrimental effects on the brain, including cognitive impairment, neurotransmitter imbalances, and brain atrophy. The hippocampus, crucial for spatial memory and cognitive functions, is particularly susceptible to alcohol-induced changes. Photobiomodulation (PBM), a non-invasive therapeutic method that utilizes red or near-infrared light, has shown promising applications in the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Variable selection is important in spectral analysis for improving interpretation quality and accuracy. This study introduces a novel variable selection process, named "VMHBSC", which consists of six steps, with each letter representing one step. To demonstrate its process and advantages, two datasets were employed, a mid-infrared spectral (MIR) dataset (234 × 7468, sample number × variables) of Chenpi samples (a traditional Chinese medicinal material derived from the dried peel of mature tangerines) and a near-infrared spectral (NIR) dataset (16000 × 256) for modeling competition.

Boron (B) neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a novel non-invasive targeted cancer therapy based on the nuclear capture reaction B (n, alpha) Li that enables the death of cancer cells without damaging neighboring normal cells. However, the development of clinically approved boron drugs remains challenging. We have previously reported on self-forming nanoparticles for drug delivery consisting of a biodegradable polymer, namely, "AB-type" Lactosome nanoparticles (AB-Lac particles)- highly loaded with hydrophobic B compounds, namely -Carborane (Carb) or 1,2-dihexyl--Carborane (diC6-Carb), and the latter (diC6-Carb) especially showed the "molecular glue" effect.
