Nursing values include diversity and a commitment to the elimination of health disparities. However, nursing comprises predominantly white, female nurses. The authors explore structural and interpersonal sources of disparities experienced by black persons, including white privilege. Here, the authors advocate for a continuation of the racism conversation, specifically among white nurses. Racial disadvantages stem from structural inequalities from daily slights, and usually unintended subtle racism toward black people on the part of white people, including white nurses. By raising consciousness on how we propagate subtle racism, nursing can progress faster in eliminating health disparities. Topics include postracialism, colorblindness, institutional racism, white privilege, health disparities, clinical encounters, subtle racism, and racial microaggressions. Suggestions for open dialogue, historical awareness, education, research, and practice are highlighted. Difficulties involved in confronting racism and white privilege are explored.

Real-World data platforms for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) offer a unique opportunity to improve health equity through better understanding of health disparities and inclusivity in research, which is critical to translatability of research findings. AD research in the US and globally remains largely inaccessible to many individuals due to individual-level, study-level, investigator-level and larger systemic barriers. ALZ-NET, a US-based registry to evaluate longitudinal outcomes of patients being evaluated for or treated with novel FDA-approved AD therapy, and New IDEAS, an observational US-based longitudinal study of amyloid PET clinical utility, both offer opportunities for examining care, inclusivity, and disparities.

Background: Hispanic/Latinx older adults have increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, poor access to timely and quality dementia care, as well as limited access to caregiver support and interventions. We addressed these structural barriers at a local level in central Virginia in order to improve disparities in risk, early detection, and care.

Method: Systematic expansion of services was undertaken by establishing a Spanish neuropsychological clinic, providing personalized scheduling services by providers to ensure appropriate follow-up after referral is received, engaging in dementia specific community talks through a broader health system initiative (UVA Latinx Health Initiative), and facilitating dementia care coordination services for caregivers.
