Non-Covalent Self-Assembly Behaviors Based on Racemic Binaphthol Scaffolds.

Chem Asian J

December 2024

Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ministry of Educational of China, Key Laboratory of the Assembly and Application of Organic Functional Molecules of Hunan Province, Hunan Normal University, Changsha, 410081, China.

Understanding the fundamental mechanisms involved in the construction and organization of multi-scale structures is crucial for the design and manufacture of complex functional systems with long-range molecular arrangements. In this paper, a series of compounds have been synthesized using racemic binaphthols as the skeleton and a Suzuki coupling reaction for derivatization at the 6,6' positions, which resulted in various structures bearing different functional groups. Control over the self-assembly of these racemic binaphthol derivatives was successfully achieved by adjusting the types and positions of the substituents in the parent binaphthol compound, which revealed the key factors influencing the types of the non-covalent interactions and the self-assembly process.

A new series of Zn(II) supramolecular isomers containing ditopic 1,3-di(pyridin-4-yl)urea (4bpu) ligand were synthesized and characterized by infrared analysis, elemental analysis and TGA as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Four solvent-induced pseudopolymorphic zinc (II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely, {[Zn(4bpu)(OAc)](CHOH)} (1), {[Zn(4bpu)(OAc)](CHOH)} (2), {[Zn(4bpu)(OAc)](HOCHCHOH)} (3), and {[Zn(4bpu)(OAc)](0.5HO)} (4), were prepared by the reaction of Zn(OAc).

Alternating Donor-Acceptor Ladder-Type Heteroarene for Efficient Photothermal Conversion via Boosting Non-Radiative Decay.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

November 2024

State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry (SKLAOC), Key Laboratory of Special Function Materials and Structure Design (MOE), College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, 730000, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study presents a new ladder-type conjugated molecule, FCDTDPP, with potential applications in supramolecular chemistry and cancer therapy.
  • It is synthesized using a simple method that connects donor and acceptor components through a vinylene bridge, which enhances its optical properties for effective photothermal conversion.
  • FCDTDPP exhibits excellent biocompatibility and low toxicity, making it a promising candidate for therapeutic use, as indicated by both in vitro and preliminary in vivo experiments on tumors.

Metalo Hydrogen-Bonded Organic Frameworks Constructed by Coordinated Chains for Magnetic and Proton-Conductive Bifunctionality.

Inorg Chem

September 2024

Hubei Key Laboratory of Processing and Application of Catalytic Materials, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Huanggang Normal University, Huanggang 438000, China.

Metalo hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (MHOFs) have received growing interest in designing crystalline functional materials. However, reports on bifunctional MHOFs showing magnetic and proton-conductive properties are extremely limited and their design is challenging. Herein, we investigated the magnetic and proton-conductive properties of two sulfonated and , {M(HO)(abs)} (M = Co and Mn, Habs = 4-aminoazobenzene-4'-sulfonic anion), constructed by coordination chains.

The self-assembly behavior of a heptanediamide derivative that contains a four-ring fused π-skeleton on its central methylene carbon atom has been examined. This molecule, which also contains two octyl chains, gelated the nonpolar solvent methylcyclohexane through the formation of fibrous nanostructures with hydrogen-bonding networks through a cooperative nucleation-elongation process. The supramolecular polymerization is accompanied by bathochromic shifts of both the absorption and fluorescence bands while maintaining a fluorescence quantum yield comparable to that of the monomeric state.
