Background: Ankle arthritis is a common degenerative disease that progresses as cartilage damage in the lower tibia and upper talus progresses, resulting in loss of joint function. In addition to typical arthritis, there is also structural bone loss in the talus due to diseases such as talar avascular necrosis. Total talus replacement surgery is the procedure of choice in end-stage ankle arthritis and consists of a tibial, talar component and an insert.

In recent years, the demand for orthopedic implants has surged due to increased life expectancy, necessitating the need for materials that better mimic the biomechanical properties of human bone. Traditional metal implants, despite their mechanical superiority and biocompatibility, often face challenges such as mismatched elastic modulus and ion release, leading to complications and implant failures. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), a semi-crystalline polymer with an aromatic backbone, presents a promising alternative due to its adjustable elastic modulus and compatibility with bone tissue.

Department of Oculoplastic, Orbital and Lacrimal Surgery, Aichi Medical University Hospital.

Purpose: To examine the anatomy of the orbital septum posterior to the medial canthal tendon area.

Materials And Methods: We performed 3 anatomical dissections in the present study. The first one was a microscopic study in which exenterated specimens from 6 Japanese cadavers (age from 77 to 93 years at death) were cut inferno-horizontally, including the Müller muscle, medial rectus pulley, and lateral rectus pulley, and stained with Masson's trichrome.

Effect of Anterior Disc Displacement and Estrogen Deficiency on Rabbit Mandibular Condyle.

J Oral Biosci

December 2024

Department of maxillofacial surgery, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to establish an experimental model of idiopathic condylar resorption by combining surgically induced anterior disc displacement and estrogen deficiency in growing rabbits. This study aimed to investigate the individual and combined effects of these factors on condylar resorption.

Materials And Methods: Seventeen female Japanese White rabbits were divided into four groups: control, ovariectomy, anterior disc displacement surgery, and combination of ovariectomy and anterior disc displacement surgery.
