Biological Correlates of Intimate Partner Violence Perpetration.

Aggress Violent Behav

Published: January 2010

An extensive literature documents biological correlates of general aggression, but there has been less focus on biological correlates of intimate partner violence (IPV). The purpose of this review is to summarize the research literature to date that has reported on biological factors in IPV perpetration. We review the existing literature on four domains of biological processes that have been examined with respect to IPV perpetration, including: head injury and neuropsychology; psychophysiology; neurochemistry, metabolism and endocrinology; and genetics. We critique the literature, discuss the clinical relevance of research findings, and provide some recommendations for future biologically-oriented IPV research.

Assessment of bacteriological and immunological markers in urinary tract infection and the effect of antibiotics on the isolated bacteria.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are recognized as the second most common medical condition, following respiratory infections. Despite the availability of numerous efficacious antibiotics for the management of UTIs, the rising incidence of bacterial resistance presents significant challenges in the treatment of these infections. Bacteria are endowed with the ability to reproduce and develop resistance mechanisms against antibiotics.

Chemotherapy is a potent tool against cancer, but drug resistance remains a major obstacle. To combat this, understanding the molecular mechanisms behind resistance in cancer cells and the protein expression changes driving these mechanisms is crucial. Targeting the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System (UPS) has proven effective in treating multiple myeloma and shows promise for solid tumours.

Preliminary Evidence for Perturbation-Based tACS-EEG Biomarkers of Gamma Activity in Alzheimer's Disease.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by impaired inhibitory circuitry and GABAergic dysfunction, which is associated with reduced fast brain oscillations in the gamma band (γ, 30-90 Hz) in several animal models. Investigating such activity in human patients could lead to the identification of novel biomarkers of diagnostic and prognostic value. The current study aimed to test a multimodal "Perturbation-based" transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation-Electroencephalography (tACS)-EEG protocol to detect how responses to tACS in AD patients correlate with patients' clinical phenotype.

Renal fibrosis (RF) is a crucial pathological factor in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to end-stage renal failure, and accurate and noninvasive assays to monitor the progression of renal fibrosis are needed. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are noncoding RNAs that can be used as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for human diseases. In this study, we analysed the expression of hsa_circ_0008925 in human urinary renal tubular cells and investigated its role in renal fibrosis.

This study investigates the prognostic value of serum biomarkers PD-L1 and IGFBP-2 in patients with esophageal carcinoma. It finds a significant positive correlation between these biomarkers and established tumor markers CEA and CYFRA21-1. The 3-year survival rate for the patient cohort was 45.
