Three varieties of complete control over dosimetric devices are reviewed. In these devices, use is made of combined detectors consisting of scintillators and semi-conductors. The control is effected by means of scintillator illumination from a stabilized light source via an edge-lighted panel.

1-year efficacy results after MR-guided risk-adapted stereotactic radiotherapy of infra-diaphragmatic oligometastases in a multicenter phase II trial.

Radiother Oncol

January 2025

Department of Oncology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Herlev and Gentofte, Borgmester Ib Juuls Vej 1, Herlev 2730 Denmark; Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 3B, Copenhagen 2200, Denmark.

Background And Purpose: The SOFT (Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy of infra-diaphragmatic sOFT tissue metastases) trial assesses the safety and efficacy of risk-adapted MR-guided stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) of infra-diaphragmatic soft tissue metastasis in patients with oligometastatic disease (OMD) (clinicaltrials.gov ID NCT04407897). This paper reports the one-year efficacy analysis and evaluates associations between local control (LC) and clinical and dosimetric parameters.

Dosimetric Planning Comparison for Left Ventricle Avoidance in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Radiotherapy.

Cureus

December 2024

Physics and Engineering, London Regional Cancer Program, London, CAN.

Introduction: Radiation may unintentionally injure myocardial tissue, potentially leading to radiation-induced cardiac disease (RICD), with the net benefit of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) radiotherapy (RT) due to the proximity of the lung and heart. RTOG-0617 showed a greater reduction in overall survival (OS) comparing higher doses to standard radiation doses in NSCLC RT. VHeart has been reported as an OS predictor in the first- and fifth-year follow-ups.

One of the most problematic goals for radiation safety during spaceflight is an assessment of additional doses received by astronauts during extravehicular activity (EVA). The Pille-ISS thermoluminescent dosimeter developed by the predecessor of the Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN) Centre for Energy Research (Budapest, Hungary) is designed for the routine dose measurements not only inside the spacecraft compartments, but also for personal dosimetric control for EVA. During almost two decades of the International Space Station (ISS) operation, the unique set of 131 EVA doses were recorded in different conditions, such as: solar activity, ISS trajectory along the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), and shielding conditions provided by two kinds of spacesuits: the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) and Orlan.

Assessment of the effectiveness of Monte Carlo Simulation for dose control at the Moroccan Boukhalef ionization facility.

Appl Radiat Isot

January 2025

Department of Physics, Nuclear Physics and Techniques Team, Faculty of Science, Ibn Tofail University, Kenitra, Morocco.

Controlling the absorbed dose received by a target is a major challenge encountered during ionizing radiation applications. For experimentally measuring absorbed dose, dosimetric systems are used. On the other hand, in addition to experimental methods of dose measurement, there are other alternatives for calculating absorbed doses, these are numerical methods based on the Monte Carlo method which are very sophisticated and widely used throughout the world.

Purpose: Conventional radiotherapy (CRT) has limited local control and poses a high risk of severe toxicity in large lung tumors. This study aimed to develop an integrated treatment plan that combines CRT with lattice boost radiotherapy (LRT) and monitors its dosimetric characteristics.

Methods: This study employed cone-beam computed tomography from 115 lung cancer patients to develop a U-Net +  + deep learning model for generating synthetic CT (sCT).
