Recent efforts using perfluorocarbon (PFC) nanoparticles in conjunction with acoustic droplet vaporization has introduced the possibility of expanding the diagnostic and therapeutic capability of ultrasound contrast agents to beyond the vascular space. Our laboratories have developed phase-change nanoparticles (PCNs) from the highly volatile PFCs decafluorobutane (DFB, bp =-2 °C) and octafluoropropane (OFP, bp =-37 °C ) for acoustic droplet vaporization. Studies with commonly used clinical ultrasound scanners have demonstrated the ability to vaporize PCN emulsions with frequencies and mechanical indices that may significantly decrease tissue bioeffects. In addition, these contrast agents can be formulated to be stable at physiological temperatures and the perfluorocarbons can be mixed to modulate the balance between sensitivity to ultrasound and general stability. We herein discuss our recent efforts to develop finely-tuned diagnostic/molecular imaging agents for tissue interrogation. We discuss studies currently under investigation as well as potential diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms that may emerge as a result of formulating PCNs with low boiling point PFCs.

Phase change materials (PCMs) have been widely recognized as a highly efficient medium for thermal energy storage. Many studies have identified the low thermal conductivity of PCMs. In the current investigation, the researchers have blended PCM with nanoparticles to enhance its thermal conductivity and electrical efficiency.

Ultrathin and low-loss phase-change materials (PCMs) are highly valued for their fast and effective phase transitions and applications in reconfigurable photonic chips, metasurfaces, optical modulators, sensors, photonic memories, and neuromorphic computing. However, conventional PCMs mostly suffer from high intrinsic losses in the near-infrared (NIR) region, limiting their potential for high quality factor (-factor) resonant metasurfaces. Here we present the design and fabrication of tunable bound states in the continuum (BIC) metasurfaces using the ultra-low-loss PCM SbSe.

In this work, we are comparing biomimetic niosomal nanoparticles (BNNs) with biomimetic liposomal nanoparticles (BLNs) and studying their drug carrier properties. A-BNNs and A-BLNs are prepared by lipid hydration method and characterized using DLS for size and zeta potential analysis, surface morphology by SEM, structural details by TEM, crystallinity and phase change by XRD, thermodynamic properties by DSC, TGA and DTGA, drug carrier properties by entrapment efficiency, drug release studies by open-end tube method and its mechanistic assessment by fitting with various models such as zero order, first order, Higuchi and Korsmeyer-Peppas models. The A-BNNs had an average size of 157.

Background: Current strategies for reducing blood pressure (BP) are ineffective and unsafe for many patient populations, including drug-resistant hypertension and during pregnancy. Stimulating the periaqueductal grey (PAG) region has shown promise in treating drug-resistant hypertension in patients using deep brain stimulation.
Objective: To develop a minimally invasive neuromodulation technique for the sustained treatment of hypertension.

Phase change materials (PCMs) are promising for thermal energy storage due to their high latent enthalpy and constant phase change temperature. However, organic PCMs suffer from leaking, low thermal conductivity, and flammability. Herein, high thermal conductivity, photothermal and flame-proof docosane microcapsules with melamine-formaldehyde (MF) and polypyrrole (PPy) (C-CMFP) were reported with cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) stabilized Pickering emulsion droplets as templates through in-situ polymerization.
