Introduction: Superporous hydrogel (SPH) swells very rapidly in a shorter period of time to an equilibrium size and contains highly porous structure.
Aim: The synthesis of SPH of poly (acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) and its composites viz. Ac-Di-Sol and polyvinylpyrollidone (PVP) was carried out by solution polymerization.
Materials And Methods: The SPH and SPH composites (SPHCs) were characterized by measurement of apparent density, porosity, swelling, mechanical strength, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies.
Results: FTIR studies confirmed the existence of acrylamide and acrylic acid in SPH. In distilled water SPH showed tremendous increase in equilibrium swelling capacity with conventional SPH as compared to its SPHCs of Ac-Di-Sol and PVP due to the increased in physical cross-linking network, respectively. The presence of Ac-Di-Sol and PVP in SPHCs increased the mechanical strength as compared to conventional SPH which is suitable for gastric retention. SEM pictures clearly indicated the formation of interconnected pores and capillary channels.
Conclusion: The amount and type of polymers used affect almost all the characterization parameters of SPHs, and hence, depending upon the applications perspective such polymers could be used in drug delivery systems, successfully.

The use of plant seed-based hydrogels to design drug delivery systems (DDSs) has increased due to their swellable, pH-responsive, biocompatible, biodegradable, and non-toxic nature. Herein, the chia seeds hydrogel (CSH) was extracted through an aqueous extraction method to explore its pH and salt-responsive swelling behavior and sustained release potential. The CSH was characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and solid-state cross-polarization magic angle spinning carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (solid/state CP-MAS C/NMR) spectra.

Combining natural polysaccharides with synthetic materials improves their functional properties which are essential for designing sustained-release drug delivery systems. In this context, the Aloe vera leaf mucilage/hydrogel (ALH) was reacted with acrylic acid (AA) to synthesize a copolymerized hydrogel, i.e.

An unexplored hybrid superporous hydrogel (MHSPH) of Dillenia indica fruit mucilage (DIFM) and carrageenan blend embedded with green synthesized magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MNPs) is utilized as an effective wound dressing material with appreciable mechanical strength in murine model. The prepared MNPs and the optimized MHSPH were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared (FT- IR) spectroscopy. Size, zeta potential and morphology of MNPs was assessed using Dynamic light scattering technique (DLS) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) respectively.
