Cryptococcus gattii is a saprophytic basidiomycete that grows in the environment and can cause systemic cryptococcosis. Ocular cryptococcosis causes blindness and is commonly associated with central nervous system (CNS) infection. Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) can control cryptococcosis and another mycosis.

Background: Limited data exist regarding outcomes of cryptococcosis in patients without HIV with few studies having compared outcomes of Cryptococcus gattii, versus C. neoformans, infection.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study in 46 Australian and New Zealand hospitals to determine the outcomes of cryptococcosis in patients without HIV diagnosed between 2015 and 2019, and compared outcomes of C.

Studies across various pathogens highlight the importance of pathogen genetic differences in disease manifestation. In the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans, sequence type (ST) associates with patient outcome. We performed a meta-analysis of four genomic studies and identified overlapping gene regions associated with virulence, suggesting the importance of these gene regions in cryptococcal disease in diverse clinical isolates.

is a widespread fungal pathogen that can infect the human central nervous system (CNS) and cause fungal meningitis, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide each year. Previous studies have demonstrated that many signal transduction pathways are crucial for the morphological development and virulence of . In this review, data from over 116 research articles have been compiled to show that many signaling pathways control various characteristics of , individually or in association with other pathways, and to establish strong links among them to better understand pathogenesis.

Background And Objective: We aimed to evaluate clinical characteristics and therapeutic efficacy of pulmonary cryptococcosis (PC) in patients with different immune status in a large multicenter population to support appropriate clinical management of this public health threat.
Methods: We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 510 patients with PC from January 2014 to June 2023 in 10 representative regional tertiary teaching hospitals in Hubei province of China, and clinical data of these patients were then stratified by different immune statuses.
Results: Immunocompetent (IC) patients accounted for 68.
