Heart rate variability (HRV) and respiration recorded during sleep from 8 patients suffering from difficult-to-control asthma were studied to investigate autonomic nervous system control of cardiac and respiratory activities, and of cardio-respiratory coupling during different sleep stages.

Sleep problems occur more frequently in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) than in typically developing individuals, and recent studies support a genetic link between ASD and sleep disturbances. However, it remains unclear how sleep problems may be mechanistically connected to ASD phenotypes. A longstanding hypothesis posits that an imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory (E/I) signaling in the brain underlies the behavioral characteristics of ASD.

Circadian neurons within animal brains orchestrate myriad physiological processes and behaviors, but the contribution of these neurons to the regulation of sleep is not well understood. To address this deficiency, we leveraged single-cell RNA sequencing to generate a comprehensive census of transcriptomic cell types of clock neurons. We focused principally on the enigmatic DN3s, which constitute most fly brain clock neurons and were previously almost completely uncharacterized.

Cannabis sativa has been used therapeutically since early civilizations, with key cannabinoids Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) 3.1 and cannabidiol characterized in the 1960s, leading to the discovery of cannabinoid receptors type 1 (CBR) and type 2 (CBR) and the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the 1990s. The ECS, involving endogenous ligands like 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) 1.

The primary cilium is a hair-like organelle that hosts molecular machinery for various developmental and homeostatic signaling pathways. Its alteration can cause rare ciliopathies such as the Bardet-Biedl and Joubert syndromes, but is also linked to Alzheimer's disease, clinical depression, and autism spectrum disorder. These afflictions are caused by disturbances in a wide variety of genes but a common phenotype amongst them is cognitive impairment.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a globally prevalent concern with significant health impacts, especially when coupled with comorbidities. Accurate detection and localization of airway obstructions are crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment, which remains a challenge for traditional sleep monitoring methods. Here, we report a catheter-based flexible pressure sensor array that continuously monitors soft tissue pressure in the upper airway and facilitates at the millimeter level.
