The rise of the IgE content was found in 78.5% of patients suffering from chronic liver diseases. In patients with chronic active hepatitis, it was identified to a greater rate, whereas in patients with chronic persistent hepatitis to a lesser degree. A direct relation was noted between the level of IgE and the intensity of the disease clinical picture, biochemical and immunological indicators of activity, and the degree of morphological alterations in the liver. It is concluded that the immediate hypersensitivity is implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases.

Severe Maternal Morbidity Associated With Chronic Hypertension, Preeclampsia, and Gestational Hypertension.

JAMA Netw Open

January 2025

Magee-Womens Research Institute, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, Epidemiology and Clinical and Translational Research, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Importance: Chronic hypertension and preeclampsia are leading risk enhancers for maternal-neonatal morbidity and mortality. Severe maternal morbidity (SMM) indicators include heart, kidney, and liver disease, but studies have not excluded patients with preexisting diseases that define SMM. Thus, SMM risks for uncomplicated chronic hypertension specific to preeclampsia remain unclear.

Background: Exogenous Cushing's syndrome, which results from prolonged glucocorticoid treatment, is associated with metabolic abnormalities. Previously, we reported the inhibitory effect of tonsil-derived mesenchymal stem cell conditioned medium (T-MSC CM) on glucocorticoid signal transduction. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic efficacy of T-MSCs in a mouse model of exogenous Cushing's syndrome.

Background: Robotic hepatectomy has been increasingly adopted for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the ideal technique of parenchymal transection in robotic hepatectomy has been a matter of ongoing debate in literature.

Patients And Methods: In this video, we demonstrate the technique of robotic anatomical segment VIII resection using the scissor hepatectomy technique for parenchymal transection on a 75-year-old male patient with a solitary HCC lesion.

Regulation of pathologic fibroblast functions in digestive diseases: a role for hypoxia?

Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol

January 2025

Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin, Ireland.

The recent uncovering of fibroblast heterogeneity has given great insight into the versatility of the stroma. Among other cellular processes, fibroblasts are now thought to contribute to the coordination of immune responses in a range of chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer. While the pathologic roles of myofibroblasts, inflammatory fibroblasts and cancer associated fibroblasts in disease are reasonably well understood, the mechanisms behind their activation remain to be uncovered.
