In this article, a new surgical model for evaluating telemanipulators used in middle ear surgery is presented. The purpose of this work was to develop an evaluation and training system which imitates a typical surgical task of middle ear surgery and which can easily be repeated in order to get significant result. The abstract task can be performed manually or by means of a microsurgical telemanipulator and guaranties stable experimental conditions between different subjects at any time. As a task the stapedotomy was chosen, due to the high demands in positioning and in applying forces to the delicate structures in the middle ear. The manual and telemanipulated performance of 15 ENT surgeons and 17 medical students was compared using this evaluation and training system.

Hearing loss (HL) in mid-life has been suggested as a risk factor for cognitive decline. It is unclear whether this relationship is due to deprivation of auditory input alone, degenerative processes, or a combination. Animal models are useful to investigate underlying neural mechanisms as human studies can be confounded by various factors.

We used machine learning to investigate the residual visual field (VF) deficits and macula retinal ganglion cell (RGC) thickness loss patterns in recovered optic neuritis (ON). We applied archetypal analysis (AA) to 377 same-day pairings of 10-2 VF and optical coherence tomography (OCT) macula images from 93 ON eyes and 70 normal fellow eyes ≥ 90 days after acute ON. We correlated archetype (AT) weights (total weight = 100%) of VFs and total retinal thickness (TRT), inner retinal thickness (IRT), and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness.

Currently, targeted biological therapy is an innovative and highly effective approach in the treatment of severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) associated with T2 inflammation that is uncontrolled by standard treatment methods. The article presents the first experience of long-term observation of a patient who, one year after the start of targeted biological therapy with dupilumab, independently stopped the treatment due to complete relief of symptoms of CRSwNP, despite recommendations to continue therapy to maintain control. At the same time, one year after the refusal of biological therapy, the patient showed persistent clinical remission in relation to the symptoms of CRSwNP, confirmed by the results of videoendoscopic examination of the nasal cavity and computed tomography of the sinuses.
