Urolithiasis is a common multifactorial urological disorder that is characterized by stone formation. Interleukin (IL)-1 and IL-6 are pro-inflammatory cytokines that might be linked with urolithiasis. The single nucleotide polymorphisms within the IL-1 and IL-6 cytokine genes altered the cytokine expression levels. Our aim was to investigate the potential of IL-1β (-511 C>T), IL-6 (-174 G>C, -572 G>C, -597 G>A) and IL-1RN VNTR gene polymorphisms to be a genetic marker for urinary stone disease. The polymorphisms studied in the promoter regions of IL-1β and IL-6 genes did not reveal a strong association with urolithiasis when compared to the control group (p = 0.293, 0.871, 0.921, 0.536, respectively). However, a significant difference was observed between control and patient groups for IL-1RN VNTR gene polymorphism (χ(2) = 6.131, d.f. = 2, p = 0.047). Our data provide evidence that IL-1RN VNTR gene polymorphism may be involved in the pathogenesis of urinary stone formation, contributing to genetic susceptibility for urolithiasis.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the association between variants in the interleukin (IL)-1 gene cluster and susceptibility to keratoconus (KC) in an Iranian population.
Methods: In the case group, there were 188 KC patients diagnosed by clinical findings and corneal tomography. The control group included all 205 healthy controls with no personal or family history of eye-related, metabolic, or immune system-related disease.

We have evaluated the association of polymorphisms in the intronic variable-number tandem repeat (VNTR) regions of the human NKG2D, NKG2A, and IL-1RN genes with resistance and/or susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection in a total of 209 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection (125 asymptomatic patients and 84 symptomatic patients with mild symptoms) and 355 healthy controls, using the PCR-RFLP method. The genotypic and allelic frequency distributions for an IL-1RN (VNTR) single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) were found to be comparable among the patient groups. Overall, in SARS-CoV-2 patients, NKG2A (rs2734440) showed a protective association in the codominant [(A/A vs.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist gene (IL-1RN) and coronary in-stent restenosis (ISR) through the analysis of the VNTR variant based on the previously reported results.
Materials And Methods: The samples were classified into two clearly defined groups: the case group, which comprised 45 patients diagnosed with in-stent restenosis (ISR+), and the control group, which included 60 patients without ISR (ISR-). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed to examine the 86-bp VNTR variant of the IL-1RN gene.

Introduction: The IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra or IL-1RN) is a member of the IL-1 superfamily that functions as a competitive antagonist of the cell surface IL-1 receptor, thereby regulating various immune and inflammatory responses related to IL-1. IL-1 induces tumor growth and metastasis, while IL-1RN inhibits the secretion of IL-1α and IL-6 in cancer cells. Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine, can be secreted by many types of immune cells.
