Amidst the rising prevalence of respiratory diseases, the importance of effective lung treatment modalities is more critical than ever. However, current drug delivery systems face significant limitations that impede their efficacy and therapeutic outcome. Biohybrid microrobots have shown considerable promise for active in vivo drug delivery, especially for pulmonary applications via intratracheal routes.

This study assessed the prevalence and spatial distribution of viable ultrafine and fine antibiotic-resistant bacteria aerosols (ARB) in the Metropolitan Area of Barranquilla, Colombia, pre- and post-lockdown (September 2019 to December 2020). Samples were systematically collected from urban, suburban, and rural sites using a six-stage viable cascade impactor. We employed logistic regression and Bayesian Neural Network Classifiers to analyze meteorological variables' influence on antibiotic resistance persistence.

Background: Aerosols generated during toilet flushing are a potential source for transmission of viral and bacterial pathogens in bathrooms. However, manual decontamination of bathrooms after each use is not feasible.
Methods: We tested the efficacy of a wall-mounted far ultraviolet-C (UV-C) light technology that only delivers far UV-C when people are not present for decontamination of surfaces and aerosolized viral particles in an unoccupied hospital bathroom.

Aims: Intubated patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus pneumonia, fail optimized treatment with intravenous (IV) vancomycin (serum trough 15-20 μg/mL) in 38-79% of cases. Airway blood flow is diminished compared to alveoli and we hypothesized that vancomycin concentrations achieved in airway secretions are suboptimal and nonbactericidal. Targeted therapy by inhalation may overcome this deficit.

Polyelectrolyte-drug complexes are interesting alternatives to improve unfavorable drug properties. Vancomycin (VAN) is an antimicrobial used in the treatment of methicillin-resistant pulmonary infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. It is generally administered intravenously with a high incidence of adverse side effects, which could be reduced by intrapulmonary administration.
