Objective: Although many clinical studies on skip lymphatic metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer have been reported, the risk factors for skip lymphatic metastasis are still controversy and debatable. This study investigated, by multivariate logistic regression analysis, the clinical features of skip metastasis to mediastinal lymph nodes (N(2)) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Methods: We collected the clinicopathological data of 256 pN(2)-NSCLC patients who underwent lobectomy plus systemic lymph node dissection in Fujian Medical University Union Hospital. The cases in the present study were divided into two groups: skip metastasis (N(2) skip+) and non- skip metastasis (N(2) skip-). A retrospective analysis of clinical pathological features of two groups was performed. To determine an independent factor, multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify possible risk factors.

Results: A total of 256 pN(2)-NSCLC patients were recruited. The analysis results showed that gender, pathologic types, surgery, pleural involvement, smoking history, age, tumor stages, and differentiation were not statistical significant factors impacting on skip metastasis in pN(2)-NSCLC (P>0.05), whereas tumor size was an independent factor for skip metastasis (P=0.02).

Conclusions: The rate of skip lymphatic metastasis increases in pN(2)-NSCLC patients, in accompany with an increased tumor size.

Background: Pre-operative detection of skip metastasis in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is significant in preventing recurrence. The study aimed to investigate the characteristics and prognosis of skip metastasis to lateral neck in PTC patients by a cross-sectional study.

Methods: Between 2013 and 2016, 494 patients who underwent thyroidectomy for PTC and positive lateral lymph node metastases (LLNM) were retrospectively identified.

Introduction Surgical management of level V in clinically node positive (cN+) oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) is controversial. The objectives of the study were to identify predictors of level V metastases in cN+ OSCC. Methods This retrospective study is based on institutional data of operated cN+ OSCC between April 2018 and December 2022.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy holds significant importance in cancer management, yet the challenge persists in early detection and precise resection of metastasis lymph nodes (LNs) due to the absence of specific and sensitive optical probes. This study reports metastatic LN reporters (MLRs) with an activatable optical output for accurate spatiotemporal mapping of lymphatic metastases in gastric cancer. MLRs are self-assembled entities incorporating mixed amphiphiles with a lipophilic tail and a tumor-targeting ligand or a fluorescent moiety that is caged with a switch cleavable by tumor-specific β-galactosidase (β-Gal).

Faculty of Information Engineering and Automation, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Key Laboratory of Computer Technologies Application, Kunming, China (F.S., S.T., X.W., Y.L., L.W.). Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Metastatic bone tumors harm patient quality of life and conventional diagnostics are slow and subjective, highlighting the need for a faster, more accurate method.
  • A new segmentation framework, BMSMM-Net, uses innovative layers and modules to improve the detection and segmentation of bone metastases by better processing depth feature maps and utilizing multi-scale features.
  • The framework demonstrated impressive results with high F1 and mIoU scores on the BM-Seg dataset, indicating its accuracy and efficiency, making it a promising tool for clinical use in detecting bone metastases.

Department of Orthopaedic Oncology Surgery, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital,Capital Medical University, Beijing 100035,China; National Center for Orthopedics,Beijing 100035, China; Beijing Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Beijing, 100035, China. Electronic address:

Background: Total humeral replacement (THR) is one of the few options for reconstruction when the humerus is extensively involved or with skip lesions. However, there are few studies focusing on the long-term outcomes of THR for primary sarcomas, and the function and endoprosthesis survival remains uncertain.

Questions/purposes: The purposes of this study were to answer the following questions: 1) What are the oncological and functional outcomes of total humeral replacement? 2) What are the overall survival and revision-free survival rates of total humeral replacement? 3) What are the failure mechanisms of total humeral replacement?

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 34 patients (22 males, 12 females) between January 1997 and December 2021.
