Optical single-shot readout of spin qubits in silicon.

Nat Commun

January 2025

TUM School of Natural Sciences, Department of Physics and Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST), Technical University of Munich, James-Franck-Str. 1, Garching, Germany.

Small registers of spin qubits in silicon can exhibit hour-long coherence times and exceeded error-correction thresholds. However, their connection to larger quantum processors is an outstanding challenge. To this end, spin qubits with optical interfaces offer key advantages: they can minimize the heat load and give access to modular quantum computing architectures that eliminate cross-talk and offer a large connectivity.

Background: Loss to follow-up (LTFU) of patients with presumed tuberculosis (TB) before completing the diagnostic process (pre-diagnosis LTFU) and before initiating treatment for those diagnosed (pre-treatment LTFU) is a challenge in the realization of the End TB Strategy. We assessed the proportion of pre-diagnosis and pre-treatment LTFU and associated factors among patients with presumed TB and those diagnosed in the selected health facilities.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study involving a review of routinely collected data from presumptive, laboratory and TB treatment registers from January 2019 to December 2022.

Background: Effective mental health systems depend on the functioning of a variety of factors that can be systematically monitored across countries. Macro-level assessments are needed to identify potential areas for improvement in the health sector, particularly in countries that face significant access barriers such as Greece.

Aim: To analyze Greece's mental health-related indicators in comparison to countries with similar socioeconomic contexts and geography and identify priority areas for the national mental health system.

Objectives: Previous studies have indicated that maternal occupational psychosocial stressors may affect the risk of asthma in the offspring, but their results are inconsistent. Maternal occupational ergonomic strain is associated with predictors of fetal lung development, including preterm birth and low birthweight; however, it is not known, whether ergonomic strain during pregnancy is a risk factor for asthma in offspring. The aim was to investigate maternal psychosocial stressors and ergonomic strain during pregnancy relative to the risk of offspring asthma.

Objective: We hypothesise that subclinical myocardial injury during midlife, indexed by increases in cardiac troponin I, is associated with accelerated cognitive decline, smaller structural brain volume, and higher risk of dementia.

Design: Longitudinal cohort study.

Setting: Civil service departments in London (Whitehall II study).
