A 67-year-old patient with severe comorbidities and acute type A aortic dissection with pericardial tamponade was treated with an endograft introduced through a mini-thoracotomy and puncture of the left ventricular apex. Final angiography showed complete coverage of the dissection. Early and 6-month follow-up computed tomography showed full apposition of the endograft without residual dissection. Transapical thoracic endovascular repair of acute type A aortic dissection appears to be feasible and is associated with minimal physiologic compromise. It may provide a less invasive alternative for patients with increased operative mortality.

Background: Genetically immunodeficient mice lacking Il2rg and Rag2 genes have been widely utilized in the field of biomedical research. However, immunodeficient rats, which offer the advantage of larger size, have not been as extensively used to date. Recently, Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) rats were generated using CRISPR/Cas9 system, targeting Il2rg and Rag2 in National BioResource Project in Japan.

Background: Trauma and pregnancy are both risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). We hypothesized that pregnant blunt trauma patients would have a higher incidence of VTE complications compared with matched nonpregnant females.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using National Trauma Data Bank data from 2017 to 2022.

Plasma exchange (PE) outcomes in patients with trigger-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) have not been comprehensively reviewed. Embase and MEDLINE® were searched on 03/14/2022 for English language articles published after 2007, alongside a congress materials search (2019-2022; PROSPERO: CRD42022325170). Studies with patients with trigger-associated TMA (excluding thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, 'typical' hemolytic uremic syndrome caused by Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, post-partum TMA, and TMAs with known genetic cause) who received PE or plasma infusion (PI) and reported treatment response (including measures), safety, patient-/caregiver-reported outcomes, or economic burden data were examined.

Background: Lupus podocytopathy (LP) is a non-immune complex-mediated glomerular lesion in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), characterized by the diffuse effacement of podocyte processes without immune complex deposition or with only mesangial immune complex deposition. LP is a rare cause of nephrotic syndrome in SLE patients with implications for prognosis and treatment.
Case Report: We present the case of a 28-year-old woman with a medical history of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) who presented with lower limb edema, dyspnea, hypercholesterolemia, with nephrotic range proteinuria, without acute kidney injury, and laboratory findings compatible with auto-immune hemolytic anemia.
