Objective: To evaluate the association between post-cone endocervical curettage (ECC) results, either alone or with cone margin status, and persistent/recurrent high-grade dysplasia after conization.

Methods: The medical records of 250 women who underwent a loop electrosurgical excision procedure with post-cone ECC at Soroka Medical Center, Be'er Sheva, Israel, between January 2001 and July 2011 were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: Thirty-one women (12.4%) had evidence of high-grade dysplasia in the ECC sample. Factors associated with positive ECC were being older than 35 years (P=0.004) and positive margin status (P=0.001). Twenty-nine patients (11.6%) had persistent/recurrent high-grade dysplasia. Both high-grade dysplasia in the ECC sample (hazard ratio, 2.31; P=0.032) and positive cone margins (hazard ratio, 23.4; P<0.001) were associated with persistent/recurrent disease.

Conclusion: High-grade dysplasia in the ECC sample was associated with positive cone margin status. These 2 factors were both associated with persistent/recurrent disease. Among patients with positive cone margins, a combination of margin status and ECC was superior to margin status alone for estimating the probability of persistent/recurrent disease. For women with negative cone margins, ECC was less useful. Because ECC is valuable for assessing the risk of persistent/recurrent high-grade dysplasia in many cases, post-cone ECC should be performed routinely with conization.

Predicting the risk of high-grade precancerous cervical lesions based on high-risk HPV typing in Changsha China.

Background: Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is a significant risk factor for cervical cancer. HPV typing and cytology are conducted in women of appropriate age to assess the risk of cervical lesions and to guide the need for further diagnostic procedures such as colposcopy, cervical biopsy, or treatment. This article explores methods to predict the risks of high-grade precancerous cervical lesions based on high-risk HPV typing.

Oral cancer detection is based on biopsy histopathology, however with digital microscopy imaging technology there is real potential for rapid multi-site imaging and simultaneous diagnostic analysis. Fifty-nine patients with oral mucosal abnormalities were imaged in vivo with a confocal laser endomicroscope using the contrast agents acriflavine and fluorescein for the detection of oral epithelial dysplasia and oral cancer. To analyse the 9168 images frames obtained, three tandem applied pre-trained Inception-V3 convolutional neural network (CNN) models were developed using transfer learning in the PyTorch framework.

Introduction: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) may occasionally be indicated for complete removal of periampullary (duodenal and ampullary) adenomas (PAs). As compared with malignant indications, PD for benign or pre-malignant disease is often associated with increased morbidity. While the Spigelman classification assesses malignancy risk for familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)-related duodenal adenomas, no malignancy risk score (MRS) exists for non-FAP related PAs.

Objective: Several European and American guidelines recommend to perform an additional hysterectomy in patients with cervical adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), who initially received conservative treatment and who completed childbearing during follow-up. This study aimed to evaluate cost-effectiveness of performing an additional hysterectomy in comparison to expectative management.

Methods: This post-hoc analysis was based on a retrospective cohort of patients diagnosed with AIS, who were conservatively treated by a radical (i.

Objective: We attempted to evaluate the immediate high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion-cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2/3 or worse (HSIL-CIN2+/3+, hereafter referred to as CIN2+/3+) risk of specific human papillomavirus (HPV) genotype and form the precise risk-based triage strategy for atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) women.

Methods: The clinical data of ASC-US women who underwent HPV genotyping testing and colposcopy were retrospectively reviewed. The distribution and CIN2+/3+ risks of specific HPV genotype were assessed by three approaches.
