Significant Impact of a Daytime Halogen Oxidant on Coastal Air Quality.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR 999077, China.

Chlorine radicals (Cl) are highly reactive and affect the fate of air pollutants. Several field studies in China have revealed elevated levels of daytime molecular chlorine (Cl), which, upon photolysis, release substantial amounts of Cl but are poorly represented in current chemical transport models. Here, we implemented a parametrization for the formation of daytime Cl through the photodissociation of particulate nitrate in acidic environments into a regional model and assessed its impact on coastal air quality during autumn in South China.

Objectives: Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors cause skin aging. Intrinsic aging is characterized by decreased collagen density, particularly collagen types I (COL1A1) and III (COL3A1), and an increase in the COL1/COL3 ratio. Extrinsic aging, primarily due to ultraviolet light exposure, leads to photoaging, which causes collagen fragmentation and reduced production, leading to skin sagging.

Machine learning-driven prediction of medical expenses in triple-vessel PCI patients using feature selection.

BMC Health Serv Res

January 2025

Graduate Institute of Business Administration, College of Management, Fu Jen Catholic University, No.510, Zhongzheng Rd., Xinzhuang Dist., New Taipei City, 242062, Taiwan (R.O.C.).

Revascularization therapies, such as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), alleviate symptoms and treat myocardial ischemia. Patients with multivessel disease, particularly those undergoing 3-vessel PCI, are more susceptible to procedural complications, which can increase healthcare costs. Developing efficient strategies for resource allocation has become a paramount concern due to tightening healthcare budgets and the escalating costs of treating heart conditions.

Purpose: This study assessed the microgap width and adhesion of three bacterial species in four dental implants with different interlocks under four screwing torques.

Materials And Methods: Ten samples of four implant systems with various interlockings, including full-hexagonal (FHI), cylindrical-conical trilobe-index (TLI), Morse-taper with octagon terminal index (OI), and hexagonal interlock (slip-fit) (HI-SF), were used. The abutments were screwed to the fixtures under torques of 10, 20, 30, and 40 Ncm.

Engineering spatially-confined conduits to tune nerve self-organization and allodynic responses via YAP-mediated mechanotransduction.

Chronic allodynia stemming from peripheral stump neuromas can persist for extended periods, significantly compromising patients' quality of life. Conventional managements for nerve stumps have demonstrated limited effectiveness in ensuring their orderly termination. In this study, we present a spatially confined conduit strategy, designed to enhance the self-organization of regenerating nerves after truncation.
