In this article, new interstitial antenna operating at a frequency of 2.45 GHz for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using microwave ablation has been investigated. This antenna is basically an asymmetrical miniaturized choke dipole antenna with a pointed needle at the tip. A commercial finite element method (FEM) package, COMSOL Multiphysics 3.4a, has been used to simulate the performance of needle tip choke antenna. The performance of the antenna has been evaluated numerically, taking into account the specific absorption rate, antenna impedance matching and geometry of the obtained thermal lesion, and the temperature distribution plot obtained shows that maximum temperature was attained in this simulation. The antenna is also capable of creating a spherical-shaped ablation zone. The size and shape of the ablation zone can be slightly adjusted by adjusting the choke position in order to maintain spherical ablation zones.

Ensuring the supply of safe and high-quality drinking water can be compromised by the presence of chironomid larvae in drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs), which may contaminate municipal water systems through freshwater resources. Chironomids are dominant species known for their resilience to a broad range of extreme aquatic environments. This study aimed to identify the morphological characteristics and obtain genetic information of the chironomid Paratanytarsus grimmii found in the water intake source and freshwater resource of DWTPs in Korea, highlighting the potential possibility of a parthenogenetic chironomid outbreak within DWTP networks.

(Eu[PTC])(Eu[TREN-1,2-HOPO]) inorganic-organic hybrid nanoparticles (IOH-NPs) contain Eu, tris[(1-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-6-carboxamido)ethyl]amine (TREN-1,2-HOPO) and perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylate (PTC). The IOH-NPs are prepared in water and exhibit a rod-type shape, with a length of 60 nm and a diameter of 5 nm. Particle size and chemical composition are examined by different methods (SEM, DLS, FT-IR, TG, C/H/N analysis).

The smoky brown cockroach, Periplaneta fuliginosa, is a peridomestic pest inhabiting broad regions of the world from temperate to subtropical zones. In common with other related species such as the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana, female-emitted sex pheromone components, named periplanones, are known to be key volatiles that elicit long-range attraction and courtship rituals in males. How periplanones are processed in the nervous system has been entirely unexplored in P.

Photosynthetic microorganisms such as cyanobacteria, microalgae, and anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria (APB) have emerged as sustainable and economic biotechnology platforms due to their ability to transform energy from light into chemicals through photosynthesis. The light is absorbed by photosynthetic pigment-protein antenna complexes which are composed of pigments such as bacteriochlorophylls (BChl) and carotenoids in APB, and chlorophylls (Chl), phycobiliproteins (PBP), and carotenoids in cyanobacteria and microalgae. These photosynthetic pigments are essential in the physiology of photosynthetic microorganisms and offer significant health benefits due to their potent antioxidant activity, with properties that include anticancer, antiaging, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects.

Tetracyclines (TCs) residues pose a significant threat to the aquatic environment and human health, therefore this study aims to develop a simple, rapid, and sensitive TCs detection method. Herein, a dual-responsive gel probe (LDH-CES@N) was designed, consisting of the intercalation of graphene quantum dots into europium-doped layered double hydroxide (LDH). In the presence of TCs, the as-prepared probe exhibited dual emission fluorescence at 504 nm and 616 nm due to the synergistic effect of aggregation-induced emission and antenna effect.
