Background: Heart failure (HF) is a significant cause of death among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Emerging data suggest a crucial role of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) in the pathogenesis of HF in CKD patients. The present study aimed to investigate whether the serum intact FGF23 (iFGF23) level is elevated when ejection fraction (EF) is preserved and to evaluate its predictive value for incident HF and cardiac mortality in CKD patients with preserved EF.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with coexisting portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is associated with poor patient outcomes. The efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with HCC with PVTT remain a subject of debate. In the present study, a comprehensive search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and the Cochrane Library, was conducted to identify studies evaluating the outcomes of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with HCC and PVTT.

Introduction: Adaptive ChemoTherapy for Ovarian cancer (ACTOv) is a phase II, multicentre, randomised controlled trial, evaluating an adaptive therapy (AT) regimen with carboplatin in women with relapsed, platinum-sensitive high-grade serous or high-grade endometrioid cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube and peritoneum whose disease has progressed at least 6 months after day 1 of the last cycle of platinum-based chemotherapy. AT is a novel, evolutionarily informed approach to cancer treatment, which aims to exploit intratumoral competition between drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tumour subpopulations by modulating drug dose according to a patient's own response to the last round of treatment. ACTOv is the first clinical trial of AT in this disease setting.

Purpose: Radionuclide-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) is an emerging tumor tracer. We sought to assess the uptake and diagnostic performance of F-FAPI-42 PET/CT compared with simultaneous 2-deoxy-2[F]fluoro-D-glucose (F-FDG) PET/CT in primary and metastatic lesions in patients with malignant digestive system neoplasms and to determine the potential clinical benefit.
Procedures: Forty-two patients (men = 30, women = 12, mean age = 56.

Purpose: Perioperative metabolic acidosis negatively affects patient outcomes. Perioperative fluid therapy has a clinically significant effect on acid-base balance. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of isotonic sodium bicarbonate infusion (ISB) versus balanced crystalloid solution (BCS) on perioperative acid-base balance, in terms of postoperative base excess, among patients undergoing emergency laparotomy for perforation peritonitis.
