Background: Heart muscle damage from myocardial infarction (MI) is brought on by insufficient blood flow. The leading cause of death for middle-aged and older people worldwide is myocardial infarction (MI), which is difficult to diagnose because it has no symptoms. Clinicians must evaluate electrocardiography (ECG) signals to diagnose MI, which is difficult and prone to observer bias.

Purpose: Shear wave elastography (SWE) provides a means for adding information about the mechanical properties of tissues to a diagnostic ultrasound examination. It is important to understand the physics and methods by which the measurements are made to aid interpretation of the results as they relate to disease processes.

Methods: The components of how ultrasound is used to generate shear waves and make measurements of the induced motion are reviewed.

Exploring the association between happy hypoxia and Coronavirus disease 2019 in the triage phase.

Future Sci OA

December 2025

Department of Clinical Biostatistics, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan.

Background: Patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported to show hypoxia without displaying typical clinical signs or symptoms, called "happy hypoxia." To explore the potential of happy hypoxia as a distinctive symptom of COVID-19, we compared vital signs in the triage phase between patients with and without COVID-19.

Methods: We retrospectively identified emergency patients with and without COVID-19 admitted to Rakuwakai Marutamachi Hospital, Kyoto, Japan, between January 2021 and December 2021.

Background: Infective endocarditis is characterized by the colonization of heart valves by virulent microorganisms. It commonly manifests as involvement of a single heart valve -single-valve infective endocarditis (SIE), while in some patients, two or more heart valves are concomitantly infected -multivalvular infective endocarditis (MIE). The risk of complications and prognosis of MIE as opposed to SIE are unknown.
