Necrotizing cervical soft tissue infections (NCSTIs) are devastating uncommon clinical entities that are often life threatening. We report two patients suffering from NCSTI and treated at our institution. Diagnosis of NCSTI has been confirmed histologically and surgically. Both patients were managed with very aggressive treatment (medical and surgical) and survived with minimal morbidity. Early diagnosis and aggressive, multimodality treatment can reduce mortality and morbidity rates. Thoracic and mediastinal involvement requires appropriate management. A strong clinical suspicion remains one of the most important aspects of the management of such shattering conditions.

Conventional x-ray radiography relies on attenuation differences in the object, which often results in poor contrast in soft tissues. X-ray phase imaging has the potential to produce higher contrast but can be difficult to utilize. Instead of grating-based techniques, analyzer-based imaging, also known as diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI), uses a monochromator crystal with an analyzer crystal after the object.

Modern techniques of rib fracture fixation surgery follow the AO principles of fracture reduction, fixation, and appropriate soft tissue handling. Fixation techniques can be performed using anatomic reduction and rigid fixation, or bridge plate fixation for comminuted fractures. Anatomic and nonanatomic plates can be used, although titanium precontoured locking plates are the most commonly used.

Thighplasty is a widely performed body contouring procedure, utilizing various surgical techniques for thigh lifting, including medial scar positioning, vertical and horizontal procedures, and liposuction. Despite its popularity, thighplasty is associated with high complication rates and suboptimal postoperative outcomes. This article presents a novel technique: the J medial thighplasty combined with helium plasma radiofrequency technology (HPRF) to address moderate skin and soft-tissue laxity and ptosis in the inner thighs.

With the increase of patients with adult congenital heart disease, the number of high-risk multiple redo sternotomies is increasing. Calcified conduit embedded in the sternum or large vessels attached to the sternum presents an especially challenging case. This video tutorial presents a simple safe redo sternotomy technique using an ultrasonic bone scalpel in such high-risk patients.

Dematiaceous molds often cause noninvasive disease but have the potential to cause disseminated infection, particularly in immunosuppressed hosts. is the most neurotropic of dematiaceous molds and is associated with brain abscesses, but disseminated infection is quite rare. Here we present a case of disseminated in a 67-year-old renal transplant recipient with multifocal soft tissue, bone and presumed central nervous system involvement.
