The chemistry of low dosage clathrate hydrate inhibitors.

Chem Soc Rev

Department of Chemistry, Durham University, South Road, Durham DH1 3LE, UK.

Published: March 2013

This review aims to introduce the chemistry of low dosage inhibitors of clathrate hydrate formation within the context of their role in the oil and gas industry. The review covers both kinetic hydrate inhibitors and anti-agglomerants from the point of view of structure-function relationships, focussing on recent refinements in mechanistic understanding and chemical design, and the consequently evolving and increasingly fine-tuned properties of these fascinating compounds.

Generational Differences in Self-Esteem and Vocal Perception Among Brazilian Gay Men.

J Voice

January 2025

Speech-Language Pathology Department, Universidade Federal de São Paulo - UNIFESP, Rua Botucatu, 802 Vila Clementino, 04023-062, São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil. Electronic address:

Introduction: Self-esteem and vocal perception are central aspects of identity and self-presentation, particularly within marginalized communities where voice and self-concept can be deeply intertwined with social acceptance and cultural dynamics. Among Brazilian gay men, generational differences in these areas may reflect broader social changes, shifts in stigma, and evolving notions of masculinity. This study aims to explore these differences, examining how self-esteem and self-assessed vocal descriptions vary across generations, thereby shedding light on specific needs and areas for potential support within these communities.

Biosurfactants: A review of different strategies for economical production, their applications and recent advancements.

Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences and Technology, BLDE (Deemed to be University), Bangaramma Sajjan Campus, Vijayapura 586103, India; Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, CMR University, Bangalore 562149, India. Electronic address:

Biosurfactants are biodegradable, non-toxic, and environmentally beneficial substances that are produced by microorganisms. Due to their chemical characteristics and stability in various environmental circumstances, biosurfactants are low-molecular-weight, surface-active molecules of great industrial importance. The choice of the producer microbe, kind of substrate, and purification technique determine the chemistry of a biosurfactant and its production cost.

The rapid, sensitive and reliable detection of oral cancer overexpressed 1 (ORAOV 1) is crucial for the early, non-invasive diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Herein, we are the first to construct an ultrasensitive electrochemical (EC) biosensor based on an entropy-driven "two-way signal output" (TWSO) cyclic circuit for salivary ORAOV 1 detection. This innovative TWSO cyclic circuit can skillfully convert by-products into desired signal-generating units, not only reducing the excessive accumulation of by-products but also improving the utilization efficiency of output chains, thereby achieving rapid reaction kinetics and high signal outputs.

Preparation of carbon dots (CDs) from biomass waste is of great interest due to its low cost synthesis, environmental compatibility and functionalization without adding dangerous chemicals. Herein, S-doped carbon dot (SCD) was synthesized using agricultural waste as carbon precursors and modified in-situ with rhodamine B dye (SCD@RHB) to construct efficient flouresent probe. SCD@RHB was loaded into HKUST-1 metal-organic framework (SCD@RHB/HKUST-1) and the probe was employed as ratiometric flouresent (RF) sensor for the determination of ciprofloxacin (CIP) antibiotic in trace level.

As a serine hydrolase synthesized by the liver, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is an important biomarker in the clinical diagnosis of liver diseases. To track BChE activity in drug-induced liver injury, we designed a deep-red BChE-activatable fluorescent probe (CYL-BChE) with hemi-cyanine structure by using a cyclopropyl carbonyl group as a specific recognition moiety. Its near-infrared absorption wavelength (665 nm) and emission wavelength (762 nm) provide excellent tissue penetration capabilities, making it suitable for biological imaging.
