Occlusion confusion.

Gen Dent

Published: December 2013

The subject of occlusion is fraught with controversy and confusion. As a result, there is no consensus on occlusal morpholology, normal function of the mandible, or occlusion's relationship to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. The purpose of this paper is to explain the reasons for the controversy and to provide suggested guidelines, based on engineering principles, for the restorative dentist to follow in order to minimize and prevent TMJ-related problems.
