Proteases are promising biomarkers for cancer early detection. Their enzymatic activity against peptide substrates allows for their straightforward detection using low-cost tests. However, the complexity of the human proteome makes it challenging to develop sensitive and selective tests against a specific protease biomarker.

Choline kinase alpha (CHKA) is a central mediator of cell metabolism linked to cancer and immune regulation. Cellular and clinical evaluation of CHKA has been hampered by challenges in the development of drug-like choline kinase inhibitors. Here, we identify CHKA as an unexpected off-target of histone methyltransferase inhibitors using an integrated phenomic approach.

To evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Saroa Surgical Robot System in robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RARP). We enrolled 60 patients who underwent RARP using either the Saroa (n = 9) or da Vinci Xi (n = 51) systems at Jikei University Kashiwa Hospital from January 2022 to March 2024. We compared preoperative characteristics, perioperative outcomes, complications, and postoperative urinary continence at three months between the two groups.

Introduction: The transcriptomic characteristics of + non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represent a crucial aspect of its tumor biology. These features provide valuable insights into key dysregulated pathways, potentially leading to the discovery of novel targetable alterations or biomarkers.
Methods: From The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, all available + (n = 10), + (n = 5) and + (n = 5) NSCLC tumor and + cell line (n = 7) RNA-sequencing files were collected.

The Warburg effect, also known as 'aerobic' glycolysis, describes the preference of cancer cells to favor glycolysis over oxidative phosphorylation for energy (adenosine triphosphate-ATP) production, despite having high amounts of oxygen and fully active mitochondria, a phenomenon first identified by Otto Warburg. This metabolic pathway is traditionally viewed as a hallmark of cancer, supporting rapid growth and proliferation by supplying energy and biosynthetic precursors. However, emerging research indicates that the Warburg effect is not just a strategy for cancer cells to proliferate at higher rates compared to normal cells; thus, it should not be considered an 'enemy' since it also plays complex roles in normal cellular functions and/or under stress conditions, prompting a reconsideration of its purely detrimental characterization.
