Introduction: Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) respond differently to first-line chemotherapy. Early identification of patients with limited or no clinical benefit could prompt a timelier introduction of second-line therapy and potentially lead to improved overall outcomes. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is currently the only blood-based marker in clinical use for disease control monitoring in mCRC.

Objectives: The End-of-Life Dementia-Comfort Assessment in Dying (EOLD-CAD) scale is one of the few outcome instruments designed to capture symptom burden and well-being among nursing home residents with dementia; however, psychometric evaluations of the EOLD-CAD are limited. Although the instrument is often used to assess outcomes prospectively, it was originally developed and tested as a postmortem assessment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the instrument properties of the EOLD-CAD using staff reports from a large sample of nursing home residents with cognitive impairment prior to death.

In our tertiary plastic surgery center, patients with wounds that will not be treated surgically, including complex pretibial wounds, that would traditionally have been managed operatively are managed on an outpatient basis in a nurse-led pretibial laceration clinic. We conducted a study to investigate dressing usage and assess correlators with healing time or number of appointments. We collected data regarding dressings used, time to discharge, and number of appointments retrospectively over 14 months between 2019 and 2021.

Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) is a systemic complication of an infection with Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing enterohemorrhagic , primarily leading to acute kidney injury (AKI) and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Although free heme has been found to aggravate renal damage in hemolytic diseases, the relevance of the heme-degrading enzyme heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1, encoded by ) in HUS has not yet been investigated. We hypothesized that HO-1 also important in acute phase responses in damage and inflammation, contributes to renal pathogenesis in HUS.

Grip strength is widely used as a surrogate parameter for functional status. The current gold standard, the JAMAR Hydraulic Dynamometer (JAMAR Hydraulic), presents challenges for individuals with painful finger joints or low grip strength. Therefore, the objective of this observational study was to assess comparability across the JAMAR Smart, the Martin Vigorimeter and the gold standard.
