Ribosomally synthesized posttranslationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are a rapidly growing class of natural products with diverse structures and activities. In recent years, a great deal of progress has been made in elucidating the biosynthesis of various RiPP family members. As with the study of nonribosomal peptide and polyketide biosynthetic enzymes, these investigations have led to the discovery of entirely new biological chemistry. With each unique enzyme investigated, a more complex picture of Nature's synthetic potential is revealed. This Review focuses on recent reports (since 2008) that have changed the way that we think about ribosomal natural product biosynthesis and the enzymology of complex bond-forming reactions.

Initially discovered for its role mediating the deleterious effects of environmental contaminants, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is now known to be a crucial regulator of the immune system. The expanding list of AHR ligands includes synthetic and naturally derived molecules spanning pollutants, phytochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and substances derived from amino acids and microorganisms. The consequences of engaging AHR vary, depending on factors such as the AHR ligand, cell type, immune challenge, developmental state, dose, and timing of exposure relative to the immune stimulus.

A thorium-carbon double bond that corresponds to the sum of theoretical covalent double bond radii has long been sought after in the study of actinide-ligand multiple bonding as a synthetic target. However, the stabilization of this chemical bond remains a great challenge to date, in part because of a relatively poor energetic matching between 5f-/6d- orbitals of thorium and the 2s-/2p- frontier orbitals of carbon. Herein, we report the successful synthesis of a thorium-carbon double bond in a carbon-bridged actinide-transition metal cluster, i.

MXene is widely used in the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding field. However, the high electromagnetic reflectivity of pure MXene causes potential secondary EMI pollution. This study presents a hollow egg-box structure used in MXene composite film, by which the reflectivity (R) could decrease from 0.

Objective: The objective is to investigate the differences in urinary organic acid (OA) profiles and metabolism between healthy control (HC) pregnant women and those with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during the second trimester and third trimester of pregnancy.
Methods: A total of 66 HC pregnant women and 32 pregnant women with GDM were assessed for 107 hydrophilic metabolites in urine samples collected during the second and third trimester of pregnancy using tandem mass spectrometry. The urine OA profiles for each group were obtained, and metabolomic analysis and discussion were conducted.

A pentafluoropropionic acid-functionalized fluorescent metal-organic framework material (UiO-66-NH-PFPA) is prepared by a simple post-synthetic modification (PSM) strategy for the sensitive and selective detection of dichloran (DCN). The results of fluorescence experiments demonstrate that the sensitivity of UiO-66-NH-PFPA (limit of detection, LOD = 0.478 μM) to DCN is nearly 10.
