Bridging the Gap: Remote Evaluation and Programming of Cardiac Implantable Devices in Medically Underserved Areas.

JACC Clin Electrophysiol

November 2024

IHU Liryc, Electrophysiology and Heart Modeling Institute, Fondation Bordeaux Université, Pessac-Bordeaux, France; Cardio-Thoracic Unit, Bordeaux University Hospital (CHU), Pessac, France. Electronic address: https://twitter.com/CHUBordeaux.

Background: Delivering care in medically underserved areas (MUA) is a public health challenge.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the advantages of a noncommercial multivendor solution for remote interrogation and programming of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) among inhabitants of MUAs.

Methods: This prospective comparative study evaluated benefits and safety of remote CIEDs evaluation in patients living >100 km from the Bordeaux University Hospital.

Background: Breathing patterns may inform on health. We note that the sites of earliest brain damage in Parkinson's disease (PD) house the neural pace-makers of respiration. We therefore hypothesized that ongoing long-term temporal dynamics of respiration may be altered in PD.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is an established treatment for patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). It remains unclear whether disparities exist in rural or socially vulnerable populations undergoing TAVR. This study assessed whether outcomes differ based on geographic location or vulnerability of patients undergoing TAVR.

Background: The Micra leadless pacemaker (MLP) has been demonstrated to be safe and effective as a substitute for conventional transvenous ventricular pacemakers (TVP). However, its application in the general population is still restricted. The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the safety and efficacy of MLP.

Active fluctuations of axoneme oscillations scale with number of dynein motors.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

B CUBE-Center for Molecular Bioengineering, TUD Dresden University of Technology, Dresden 01307, Germany.

Fluxes of energy generate active forces in living matter, yet also active fluctuations. As a canonical example, collections of molecular motors exhibit spontaneous oscillations with frequency jitter caused by nonequilibrium phase fluctuations. We investigate phase fluctuations in reactivated axonemes, which are accessible to direct manipulation.
