Immobilized cyclodextrin derivatives are used as chiral selectors in various modes of capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The present chapter describes three techniques in detail utilizing CDs in CEC: (1) open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (o-CEC), (2) packed capillary electrochromatography (p-CEC), and (3) monolithic capillary electrochromatography (rod-CEC). Nanoparticle pseudostationary phase capillary electrochromatography (psp-CEC) is briefly discussed.

We are developing a unique protein identification method that consists of generating peptides proteolytically from a single protein molecule (i.e., peptide fingerprints) with peptide detection and identification carried out using nanoscale electrochromatography and label-free resistive pulse sensing (RPS).

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline compounds composed of metal ions (or metal clusters) and organic ligands. Chiral MOFs have been successfully utilized as novel materials for the separation of chiral enantiomers by chromatography, demonstrating excellent chiral separation performance. In this study, a chiral MOF-modified silica monolithic capillary column was used for pressurized capillary electrochromatography.

A capillary electrochromatography (CEC) synergistic enantioseparation system based on a novel nanomaterial synthesized by chiral molecularly imprinted polymers (CMIPs) and chiral metal organic frameworks (CMOFs) was developed. Compared with CMIPs and CMOFs alone, the enantioseparation performance of ofloxacin (OFL) of the CEC with the novel nanomaterial as stationary phases was greatly improved. CMOFs with chiral recognition ability have synergize with CMIPs to greatly improve the chiral selectivity of the novel stationary phases in CEC.

In recent years, mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA)-based materials have attracted significant attention in the field of open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) owing to their diverse and appealing properties. However, previously established functionalized PDA coating-based CEC stationary phases predominantly relied on the latent reactivity of PDA with amine/thiol-containing molecules, limiting the types of applicable modifiers and requiring time-consuming reaction processes. Herein, we presented a versatile and efficient method for the facile and rapid fabrication of diverse functionalized PDA coatings as OT-CEC stationary phases through a Zr(IV) coordination-mediated post-modification strategy.
