Purpose: Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are frequently isolated from biofilm-associated orthopedic implant infections. This study assessed the activity of N-acetyl-L-cysteine at inhibitory and subinhibitory concentrations against biofilm formed by S. aureus and P. aeruginosa on prosthetic materials.

Methods: S. aureus and P. aeruginosa biofilm on smooth polyethylene and sand-blasted titanium discs was determined by means of a spectrophotometric assay before and at 3, 6, and 18 hours after addition of N-acetyl-L-cysteine.

Results: N-acetyl-L-cysteine was able to disaggregate biofilm produced by S. aureus and P. aeruginosa on polyethylene and titanium discs after 3 h of incubation. A different rate in eradication of biofilm produced by P. aeruginosa was seen between polyethylene and titanium (50% vs. 20% respectively vs. biofilm formed before treatment). Results were confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy.

Conclusions: The results suggest a possible role of N-acetyl-L-cysteine in the treatment of orthopedic prosthetic infections.

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance remains a global threat with increasing morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this study was to identify the antimicrobial resistance trends among ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp.) isolated from clinical samples at a Health Practice and Research Hospital over five years.

Objective: Study on the impact of medical wound dressing compositions on reference strains of microorganisms in vitro conditions.

Materials And Methods: The study compared the antimicrobial activity of three types of dressing materials (DM): iodoform gauze bandage, DM with furagin and sodium alginate, DM from hydrogel with dimexide and silver nitrates. Gauze bandage with chlorhexidine was used as a control.

Unlabelled: As sequencing costs decrease, short-read and long-read technologies are indispensable tools for uncovering the genetic drivers behind bacterial pathogen resistance. This study explores the differences between the use of short-read (Illumina) and long-read (Oxford Nanopore Technologies, ONT) sequencing in detecting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes in ESKAPE pathogens ( and ). Utilizing a dataset of 1,385 whole genome sequences and applying commonly used bioinformatic methods in bacterial genomics, we assessed the differences in genomic completeness, pangenome structure, and AMR gene and point mutation identification.

The present work focuses on a newly synthesized pyrazolo[3,4-]pyridine prepared by formal [3 + 3] cycloaddition using copper(II) acetylacetonate as the catalyst; efficient and effective mild reactions with high yields were obtained using this method. The synthesized compounds were identified by FT-IR, H and C NMR, and mass spectra (/) analyses. The compounds () were screened for several in vitro and in silico activities.
