This study documents the prevalence of cut mark characteristics in fresh and burned domestic pig ribs. Stab wounds from single edge serrated and smooth-edged knives were inflicted in the vertebral and sternal regions of each fresh rib. Each rack of ribs was then divided into vertebral and sternal units. Vertebral units were defleshed and their associated cut marks were examined using a stereomicroscope. Sternal units were burned in an outdoor fire pit and examined with the addition of a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Linear cuts, V-shaped cross-sections, mounding, hinge fractures, and wastage were all observed on burned ribs. There was an overall decrease in the prevalence of all features (up to a 40% decrease), regardless of knife type, in burned ribs. Striations within cut marks were not observed in either fresh or burned ribs. Oblique faulting and bone lifts could only be observed using the SEM. Mounding and wastage were obliterated during the burning process. Therefore, cut marks in burned bone should ideally be examined for their characteristics utilizing an SEM.

Background: Most of the studies on difficult intubation and laryngoscopy focused on American and European populations. However, Indians have distinct anthropometric characteristics compared to these populations. This study aims to determine the gender difference in inter-incisor distance (IID) cut-off marks to assess the ease of intubation in the Indian population.

Background: X chromosome inactivation (XCI) is a female-specific process in which one X chromosome is silenced to balance X-linked gene expression between the sexes. XCI is initiated in early development by upregulation of the lncRNA Xist on the future inactive X (Xi). A subset of X-linked genes escape silencing and thus have higher expression in females, suggesting female-specific functions.

Objective: Although DNA methylation has been suggested to be a potential predictor of the progression of obesity and obesity-related diseases, little is known about its potential role as predictive marker of successful weight loss after bariatric surgery.
Methods: 20 patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy were classified according to the percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL) 1 year after bariatric surgery, using 60% as the cut-off point. Blood DNA methylation was analyzed prior to surgery using the Infinium Methylation EPIC Bead Chip array-based platform.

Objective: To characterize the inflammatory proteome in both serum and synovial fluid (SF) of patients with gout, in comparison to healthy controls and individuals with osteoarthritis (OA), by utilizing a high-quality, high-throughput proteomic analysis technique.
Methods: Using the Olink Target 48 Inflammation panel, we measured serum concentrations of 45 inflammatory proteins in gout, OA, and healthy controls. We analyzed protein levels in SF samples from gout and OA, performed ROC curve analyses to identify diagnostic biomarkers, evaluate efficacy, and set cut-off values.
