Purpose: To compare radiofrequency ablation (RFA) with or without transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Patients And Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 189 patients with HCC less than 7 cm at a single tertiary referral center between October 2006 and June 2009. Patients were randomly asssigned to receive TACE combined with RFA (TACE-RFA; n = 94) or RFA alone (n = 95). The primary end point was overall survival. The secondary end point was recurrence-free survival, and the tertiary end point was adverse effects.

Results: At a follow-up of 7 to 62 months, 34 patients in the TACE-RFA group and 48 patients in the RFA group had died. Thirty-three patients and 52 patients had developed recurrence in the TACE-RFA group and RFA group, respectively. The 1-, 3-, and 4-year overall survivals for the TACE-RFA group and the RFA group were 92.6%, 66.6%, and 61.8% and 85.3%, 59%, and 45.0%, respectively. The corresponding recurrence-free survivals were 79.4%, 60.6%, and 54.8% and 66.7%, 44.2%, and 38.9%, respectively. Patients in the TACE-RFA group had better overall survival and recurrence-free survival than patients in the RFA group (hazard ratio, 0.525; 95% CI, 0.335 to 0.822; P = .002; hazard ratio, 0.575; 95% CI, 0.374 to 0.897; P = .009, respectively). There were no treatment-related deaths. On logistic regression analyses, treatment allocation, tumor size, and tumor number were significant prognostic factors for overall survival, whereas treatment allocation and tumor number were significant prognostic factors for recurrence-free survival.

Conclusion: TACE-RFA was superior to RFA alone in improving survival for patients with HCC less than 7 cm.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and iodine-125 (125I) seed implantation (TACE-RFA-125I) for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy.

Methods: The study retrospectively analyzed patients with recurrent HCC who received TACE-RFA-125I or TACE-RFA treatment in our institution between January 2013 and January 2023. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and recurrence were compared between the two groups.

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA), and cryoablation (CA) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 632 patients with HCC at Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer Staging (BCLC) System stages 0, A, and B from Beijing You'an Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University. The primary outcomes analyzed were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), while the secondary outcomes included one-, three-, and five-year OS rates among different groups.

Background: The recurrence rate of liver cancer after surgery is high. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is an effective treatment for liver cancer; however, its efficacy in recurrent liver cancer remains unclear.

Aim: To investigate the clinical effect of TACE combined with RFA in the treatment of recurrent liver cancer.

Background/aim: Atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) therapy is extremely effective and has a high response rate in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. This study investigated the efficacy of adding locoregional therapy with Atez/Bev for non-complete response (CR) HCC cases.

Patients And Methods: Twenty-eight HCC patients without CR during Atez/Bev therapy received locoregional therapy, and treatment efficacy was evaluated based on the modified RECIST criteria.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic outcomes of transarterial chemoembolization combined with radiofrequency ablation (TACE + RFA) for hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) measuring ≤3 cm infeasible for ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous RFA.

Methods: Twenty-four patients who underwent fluoroscopy-guided TACE + RFA for single HCC between January 2012 and December 2016 were screened. To evaluate the TACE + RFA outcomes compared with those of US-guided RFA, 371 patients who underwent US-guided RFA during the same period were screened.
