Unraveling the spoilage characteristics of refrigerated pork using high-throughput sequencing coupled with UHPLC-MS/MS-based non-targeted metabolomics.

State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Threats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-Products, MOA Laboratory of Quality & Safety Risk Assessment for Agro-Products (Hangzhou), Institute of Agro-Product Safety and Nutrition, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

The spoilage of refrigerated pork involves nutrient depletion and the production of spoilage metabolites by spoilage bacteria, yet the microbe-metabolite interactions during this process remain unclear. This study employed 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing and non-targeted metabolomics based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) to reveal the core microbiota and metabolite profiles of pork during refrigeration. A total of 45 potential biomarkers were screened through random forest model analysis.

Superoxide Anions Inhibit Intracellular Calcium Response in Porcine Airway Smooth Muscle Cells.

AJP Rep

April 2024

Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Superoxide anions (O ) have multiple effects on pulmonary parenchyma altering cell proliferation, cellular metabolism, and airway smooth muscle (ASM) contraction. Intracellular calcium ([Ca ] ) concentration plays a significant role in the regulation of ASM contraction, relaxation, proliferation, and gene expression.  We investigated the effects of O on agonist-stimulated changes in [Ca ] in ASM cells.

May 2024

Key Laboratory of Agricultural Products Cold Chain Logistics, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Institute of Agro-Products Processing and Nuclear agricultural Technology, Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wuhan 430064, China. Electronic address:

Ammonia pollution is an important environmental stress factors in water eutrophication. The intrinsic effects of ammonia stress on liver toxicity and muscle quality of rainbow trout were still unclear. In this study, we focused on investigating difference in muscle metabolism caused by metabolism disorder of rainbow trout liver at exposure times of 0, 3, 6, 9 h at 30 mg/L concentrations.

New phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors present airways relaxant activity in a guinea pig acute asthma model.

Laboratório de Farmacologia Funcional Professor George Thomas, Instituto de Pesquisa em Fármacos e Medicamentos, Universidade Federal da Paraíba, João Pessoa, Brazil.

Asthma is a disease characterized by chronic inflammation and hyper responsiveness of airways. We aimed to assess the relaxant potential of phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitors N-sulfonilhidrazonic derivatives on non-asthmatic and asthmatic guinea pig trachea. Firstly, guinea pigs were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin, and then morphological, and contractile changes were evaluated resulting from asthma, followed by evaluation of relaxant effect of derivatives on guinea pig trachea and the cAMP levels measurement by ELISA.

Amitriptyline inhibits bronchoconstriction and directly promotes dilatation of the airways.

Respir Res

October 2023

Department of Pediatrics, Medical Faculty, RWTH Aachen, University Hospital Aachen, Pauwelsstraße 30, 52074, Aachen, Germany.

Introduction: The standard therapy for bronchial asthma consists of combinations of acute (short-acting ß-sympathomimetics) and, depending on the severity of disease, additional long-term treatment (including inhaled glucocorticoids, long-acting ß-sympathomimetics, anticholinergics, anti-IL-4R antibodies). The antidepressant amitriptyline has been identified as a relevant down-regulator of immunological T2-phenotype in asthma, acting-at least partially-through inhibition of acid sphingomyelinase (ASM), an enzyme involved in sphingolipid metabolism. Here, we investigated the non-immunological role of amitriptyline on acute bronchoconstriction, a main feature of airway hyperresponsiveness in asthmatic disease.
