Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of Crohn disease activity indices (CDAI) in assessing symptomatic recurrence following ileocolic resection for Crohn disease.

Methods: A total of 85 patients who underwent ileocolic resection between March 2003 and March 2010 were included. Clinical and endoscopic evaluation were performed within 12 months after operation. Endoscopic appearance was assessed using Rutgeers score and endoscopic recurrence was defined as endoscopic score ≥i2. Symptomatic recurrence was defined by the composite of symptom severity warranting medical therapy and endoscopic recurrence. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to explore the utility of CDAI in determining the presence or absence of symptomatic disease.

Results: Nineteen patients had symptomatic recurrence within 12 months postoperatively. The mean CDAI of patients with symptomatic recurrence was 205±93, significantly higher than those with sustained remission(97±44, P<0.01). The area under the ROC curve for symptomatic recurrence and CDAI was 0.786. Symptomatic recurrence was best predicted by a CDAI cutoff of 150 and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy was 73.7%, 81.8% and 80.0% respectively. When a combined endoscopic and CDAI was applied, the specificity and accuracy was markedly improved to 95.5% and 90.6%. In comparison to CDAI alone, the combined use of CDAI and endoscopic evaluation had a higher level of agreement on symptomatic recurrence(Kappa value, 0.718 vs. 0.462).

Conclusions: CDAI is effective to predict symptomatic recurrence. A combination of CDAI and endoscopic evaluation can further improve the accuracy of assessing symptomatic recurrence.

Background: Drug-coated balloons (DCB) can decrease the incidence of restenosis in the treatment of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS). This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of submaximal angioplasty with DCB dilation compared with aggressive angioplasty in patients with symptomatic ICAS.

Methods: This study prospectively and consecutively enrolled patients with symptomatic ICAS who underwent DCB angioplasty between January 2021 and December 2023.

Background: High prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTI), including cystitis, and concern for antimicrobial resistance justify safe and effective non-antibiotic therapies for prevention of recurrent UTI (rUTI). This study investigated the effect of a whole cranberry fruit powder supplement on incidence of culture-confirmed UTI (primary outcome) in females with rUTI history.

Methods: This multicenter, 6-month, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study enrolled 150 healthy females (18-65 years, body mass index (BMI) >17.

Background: The usual antithrombotic treatment for symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) consists of dual treatment with clopidogrel and aspirin for 90 days followed by aspirin alone but the risk of recurrent stroke remains high up to 12 months. The Comparison of Anticoagulation and anti-Platelet Therapies for Intracranial Vascular Atherostenosis (CAPTIVA) trial was designed to determine whether other combinations of dual antithrombotic therapy are superior to clopidogrel and aspirin.

Methods: CAPTIVA is an ongoing, prospective, double-blinded, three-arm clinical trial at over 100 sites in the United States and Canada that will randomize 1683 high-risk subjects with a symptomatic infarct attributed to 70-99% stenosis of a major intracranial artery to 12 months of treatment with (1) ticagrelor (180 mg loading dose, then 90 mg twice daily), (2) low-dose rivaroxaban (2.

: ACEIs protect against radiation pneumonitis by reducing angiotensin II production, oxidative stress, and inflammation. This study highlights the significance of concurrent angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) use in radiotherapy by evaluating its impact on radiotherapy-related side effects and survival outcomes, addressing the gap in existing research and providing insights to guide clinical practice in oncology. : The literature was retrieved from the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases from January 2000 to October 2024.

The anterior vaginal wall is frequently affected by prolapse, which is frequently treated with anterior colporrhaphy. However, this repair has a high recurrence rate, and no standardized approach exists. Our study aimed to compare two suture techniques concerning postoperative outcomes.
