Purpose: Our aims were to present 2 new cases of Gaucher disease involving the jaws and to review the literature.
Materials And Methods: Two new cases and the literature from 1982-2011 were reviewed.
Results: Ten articles describing 35 cases (for a total of 37 with 2 new cases presented) were analyzed. The mandible and maxilla were affected in 97.3% and 24.3% of the reported cases, respectively. Generalized rarefaction of bone (osteopenia) was present in 83.8%, and well-defined radiolucent lesions in 40.5%. The effects on the surrounding structures included loss of cortication of the mandibular canal (56.7%), cortical bone thinning (27%), expansion, root resorption (24.3%), mandibular canal displacement (18.9%), cortical perforation, maxillary sinus obliteration, and tooth displacement (10.8%).
Conclusions: Two distinct bone abnormalities with separate pathophysiologies, radiographic presentation, and effects on the surrounding structures are suggested: 1) generalized mandibular/maxillary osteopenia and 2) a well-defined radiolucent lesion, which appears only in the mandible. This review refutes 2 accepted assumptions; according to the results, 1) the most common manifestation is generalized osteopenia (and the resulting mandibular canal changes), whereas the well-defined radiolucent lesion is the next most common, and 2) cortical bone thinning/perforations and lamina dura thinning are not uncommon in these patients.

The surgical ciliated cyst is a newly added entity under the cysts of the jaws in the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Head and Neck Tumours (2022). It is preceded by a prior surgery to the jaw many years before its diagnosis. A 53-year-old Chinese female, who had undergone cleft lip and palate repair followed by orthognathic surgery before the age of 20, was referred for management of an incidentally found cyst in the left maxilla.

Nasopalatine duct cysts (NPDCs) are among the most common nonodontogenic cysts, typically located in the midline of anterior maxillary hard palate. They usually arise from the embryonic epithelial vestiges of the nasopalatine duct. NPDCs predominantly affect adult males, generally during their fourth decade of life.

Focal osteoporotic bone marrow defects (FOBMDs) of jaws are rare and usually discovered as an incidental radiographic finding. They present as a poorly demarcated radiolucency affecting the posterior mandible of middle-aged women with pathogenesis remaining unknown. A 60-year-old female patient had visited our dental college for routine dental checkup and oral prophylaxis.

Odontomas are the most prevalent odontogenic tumors, often classified as hamartomas due to their slow growth and non-aggressive nature. Typically asymptomatic, they can obstruct the eruption of adjacent teeth. While the exact causes of odontomas remain unclear, potential factors include local trauma, infection, growth pressure, and hereditary influences.

In this retrospective study, 2624 biopsy reports were assessed. If the report was a record of a pericoronal lesion, the age and sex of the patient and the location, microscopic diagnosis, radiographic features, and size of the lesion were recorded.
