Temperament among children (N = 111 20-month-olds) from three cultural backgrounds in the United States (Latin American, Japanese American, and European American) was investigated. In accord with a biobehavioral universalist perspective on the expression of early temperament, few significant group differences in child temperament were found, regardless of cultural background. However, factors associated with maternal reports of child temperament differed by cultural group. The findings provide insight into the nature of child temperament generally and temperament of children in immigrant families specifically as well as parenting in immigrant families.

Background: Endophenotypes aid in studying the complex genetic basis of bipolar disorder. We aimed to compare first-degree relatives of patients with bipolar I disorder in a hospital in India with unrelated healthy controls in terms of neurocognition and affective temperament METHODS. This cross-sectional study was conducted between August and November 2012 at a tertiary hospital in India.

Children with extreme behavioral inhibition (BI) are at a significantly greater risk to develop anxiety disorders later in life. We and others have identified similar early-life temperamental BI in nonhuman primates (NHPs), including rhesus monkeys. NHP models of BI provide a unique opportunity to study the neurobiology of BI in a species that shares biological, developmental, and socioemotional similarities with humans.

Objective: The global impact of substance use, including cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine, ecstasy, hallucinogens, and opioids, is increasing, although the overall prevalence is low. Australia and New Zealand are among the few regions of the world in which use (typically illicit) of these classes of substances remains within the top 10 causes of disease burden. The period of adolescence and young adulthood, during which substance use behaviors accelerate in prevalence, is associated with a particular risk for harm.

Objective: We investigate the prevalence of five affective temperaments (depressive, cyclothymic, hyperthymic, irritable, and anxious) in a large sample of cancer patients and associations of temperament with cancer site as well as the impact of temperament on overall survival of cancer patients.
Methods: Data for this prospective cohort study was collected in the outpatient clinic of a large cancer center. We used the Temperament Evaluation in Memphis, Pisa and San Diego - Münster Version (TEMPS-M) and recorded patient data.

The concepts of executive function (EF) and effortful control (EC) are strikingly similar. EF originates from neurocognitive research and is described as an accumulation of cognitive processes that serve the goal-oriented self-regulation of an individual. EC originates from temperament research and is defined as the efficiency of executive attention, including the ability to inhibit a dominant response, activate a subdominant response, proceed in a planned manner, and recognize conflicts or errors.
